8800gtx RMA'd.

Well after over a year of gaming goodness with the card, it's starting to artifact at the bios and in windows safe mode. Doesn't even boot into regular windows anymore.

Luckily, EVGA has a top notch warranty program. And as such, I'm sending my 8800gtx off to them. Should get a replacement sometime in the coming weeks. Until then, I went ahead and got a placeholder in the mean time.

Best Buy had a nice deal going for a PNY 8800gt 512mb for $180 retail. Have it overclocked to 700/1750/1000 right now using rivatuner and I gotta say, I'm impressed with such a small card.

Of course the first thing I did was run an HD 1080p VC-1 video stream of Transformers and my CPU usage hovered at around 7% the whole time. My 8800gtx never got that low, but it did well enough at around 30%.

The 8800gtx was actually a step-up from an EVGA 7900gt 512 which I payed $300 for then stepped-up to the 8800gtx by paying the other $350(300+350=$650) 90 days later. I'm guessing if they replace it, they'll need to find a card worth $650. Their warranty states they'll replace it with a card of equal value(when you bought it). Might be fun to see what I get back. Honestly though, I'd be happy with another 8800gtx, but I wouldn't mind something newer.

9900GTX FTW.

Nvidia have confirmed Geforce Drivers 177.xx will fix the Fixed function slow down bug on XP.

I think you are better off with waiting just a bit longer for the 10800GTX. Or X800GTX, or XVIII GTX (or even IXX GTX) if they want it to be that way?

i'm pretty sure you're only going to get back a 8800GTX.

i doubt they'll give you a new card since you're RMAing and not stepping up.

if they gave you a new card of equal value everytime you RMA, then you can just get an expensive card once, and then keep RMAing it every year to get a newer card...
that dosn't make sense...
especially since EVGA has lifetime warranties...

Haha i have a evga 8800GTX card too. Lifetime warrantee.

I've had my system stop sending the video signal to my monitor a couple times in the last 3 months. Could be the motherboard but hopefully its the 8800GTX. Looks like like I might eventually need to get it replaced or..... be given a better card.

btw, did you register your card with EVGA?

its only a 90day warranty if you don't register within 1month of buying the card...

i forgot to register mine for the lifetime warranty

oh that suck =\

Oh no, I made doubly sure to do that on my card.

I could see them having a 'server error' mishap where they have no account of my registration if the lifetime warranties start turning into something more decremental profit wise then beneficial in enticing consumers to buy the brand.

That'd be cool with me as well. Although I do remember reading about some people getting back newer cards from an RMA process when they didn't have the same card in stock anymore.

I'm sure they check the returned cards for damage as well as test the card for why it was RMA'd. They'll also catch on pretty quickly if you keep RMA'ing their cards every year.

On another note, I've been playing some games with this 8800gt and it's definately got some power for such a small card. Coming from an 8800gtx which was huge in comparison. I was going to return the card once I got my replacement from EVGA, but maybe I'll keep it for my old Athlon 64 x2 system. I do notice the card is a bit slower than my 8800gtx in running UT3 with 4xAA@1680x1050 though. My 8800gtx ran at those settings without a hint of slowdown, but this card does actually chug in a few short instances of heavy fragging(32 players). The card runs Assassins Creed practically the same as my 8800gtx did though. I'm going to run some Crysis on it tomorrow and see how it handles that game compared to my 8800gtx.

Maybe once I get the replacement back, I'll run some benchmarks of both cards and get some real performance numbers of both to compare. I do have 30 Days to return the 8800gt back to Best Buy.

hmm they might do that if they stopped making the cards and stuff.

but bet that alot of people stepped up their old GTX's, so EVGA probably has alot of extras :/

Most people with G8x cards probably bought them closer to their release dates. The cards are already EOL products meaning they aren't in production anymore. I'm not sure many with an 8800gtx stepped-up to anything, other than the few who did it for the 9800gx2, but those are probably the minority. The only ones left are the ones on retail shelves and whatever stock AIB partners still have around. AIB partners don't generally take products off of retail shelves for RMA's. That only leaves whatever stock they have left.

I wonder what options they would have then, if they couldn't get me another 8800gtx. Since they'd need to get me something worth the same as when I first got the card, it couldn't be the 9800gtx or 8800gts(g9x). Both are priced far lower than the 8800gtx when it was released. The only card that expensive these days are the 9800gx2 or 8800 ultra? They could always send me 2 9800gtx's since I did note during the RMA process that I have an SLI capable motherboard.

I checked newegg.com and they don't even have EVGA 8800gtx cards listed anymore. Pricewatch.com only has 1 EVGA 8800gtx listed. Looks like the stock of 8800gtx cards are simply drying up on retail shelves.
