e8400 wolfdale..ack i should have waited!

just got all my parts from the egg and put together this.been wanting to do this for a while now.

6000+ x2
1024mb ddr 800mhz
80gig hdd
radeon 2400 hd....crap i know
dvd+rw burner.
windows etc.

i looked around newegg again today and i seen something called an e8400 and i was like what the hell is that?

needless to say i am very upset about building a new pc with a more expensive processor only to beaten by a newer cheaper/faster processor.

i looked at the reviews for the e8400 and all of them showed the e8400 decimating even the 6400+!

is there anything faster out from intel now thats faster than wolfdale? and thats cheap?

is anyone else in the sameboat am i in or what.

e8400 is the sweet spot. If you run multiple apps at once you could go for a q9000 series q9450 quadcore. Its more expensive though.

If your never going to overclock very far you could get a cheaper e8200 and just give it a little overclock to e8400 levels.

really though its usually pointless to have a great processor teamed up with a crappy videocard.

You should be more focused on spending another $20-30 to get to 2gb of ddr2 800 ram and a better videocard, preferably at the very least an nvidia 8600gt which you can get for $65.

Wait until I get my hands on the E7200 tomorrow... I'm going to make E8400 owners cry... for buying a processor $60 more expensive!

And yeah, things just improve so fast.

Running lots of apps does not require more cpus (or more cores). Unless you're actually giving each app a task to chew on simultaneously.... (unlikely) then all you need is a decent amount of ram. Open apps don't take up cpu cycles, only apps in use do.

Yeah of course thats what I mean, not apps sitting idly in your physical or virual ram. But virus scanners are one of those things that bog computers down. Even Kaspersky.

to the OP,

havn't you heard all of us AMD users complaining about how AMD sux0rs now!?

intels been owning them for months!

why would you choose an AMD chip!?

even an e6600 would have been better, you can OC them to 3.6 and just pwn the x2 6000+

You could go with AMD (their 4xxx X2 models) if you are looking for a budget processor and aren't interested in overclocking. I'd recommend something to my parents over an e2200, but then again, if I'd built something for them myself I'd go with the e2x00 series and just OC their computer for the hell of it

Don't say that ...
*is using a old version of the 6600*
*can't even overclock, heats too much*
