8400GS is enough for up to medium Half-Life 2 and some Doom 3, Quake 4...
I wouldn't recommend anything over those games, though. Just keep it really realistic. Because... if you had wanted to play games decently, you should just get a cheap laptop, and invest the rest into a kickass desktop setup.

Hmmm. You're right. Like I said, the one that I had before was used and only for $300 and I could play those games fine on decent settings. I got it from a friend has has a good hookup. Problem is that he's not always reliable when I need a new comptuer. It would suck if I pay $700 for something that isn't that much better than the one that I had before. I always wanted to build a really good desktop since everything is upgradable, but I don't want to invest in something that is stationary, since I like to have my computer everywhere I go. But thanks so much for your help guys, I really appreciate that you all took the time to help me out. I'll keep looking to see what I can find, but I'm probably going to stick with this one for now. Anyways, I'm going to try XP again and see if performance is better with that. I'll make a new partition and do a dual boot to compare.

Performance won't just be better with XP, your laptop will literally fly away.
Vista is just a really big hog... and it's certainly not something that computers older than the Core 2 or Athlon64 X2 generation should mess with. It's good if you just want to work, though. For gaming... XP is still a big "yes."

Well that rest my suspicions about Vista being a major barrier for me as to why I'm getting these major slowdowns. I will definitely try it and see how that goes.

My gaming laptop (real gaming laptop) on XP64:
ORB - Compare

Exact same laptop on Vista x64:
ORB - Compare

Less than 1% difference.

Why don't you just keep your current laptop for when you're on the go, build yourself a regular desktop PC, and an external HD so you can carry all your important things with you without having 2 copies. The difference in performance you'll get from a desktop and a laptop at the same price is pretty drastic.

Obviously if you have more than enough power to throw at Vista then things will be similar...however if power is scarce then XP is definitely the better choice.

The title of the thread is not "Need Help Finding A Piece of Crap Laptop."

Neither was it "Need Help Finding Something That Can Run Vista."

My Eee PC can't run Vista decently, and I wouldn't call her a piece of crap.
