man this question gets asked like every other day now

it depends on what you're going to use the PC for.

PCSX2 emulator relies on faster clock speed, so the 8400 3Ghz would serve you better.

but for regular PC use and multi-tasking, the Quad-core would be better.

I would get the Q6600 with an aftermarket cooler and OC it to 3Ghz. (well actually i'd try and OC it close to 4Ghz, but thats cuz i like to push the hardware to its limits)

if you don't know how to overclock, then the 8400 would be faster in PCSX2.

but if you read up on overclocking, you should be able to overclock the q6600 to at least ~3.2Ghz, and that is powerful enough to play alot of PCSX2 games at full speed. (FFX, FFXII, Kingdom Hearts, etc...)

at 2.4 Ghz though, they might not run at full speed all the time.
FFXII for instance will probably run at 40~70FPS.

but theres also games that even run slow on 3.6+Ghz systems... So don't expect all games to run at full speed.

well i'm not sure if you can OC it to 4Ghz with its stock HSF.
it would probably run pretty hot, i would still buy an aftermarket HSF if you're going to OC the 8400.

If all you're going to use it for is PCSX2, then just get the 8400.

but 4cores makes browsing through windows, and running multiple apps smoother.

Look, seriously, just go through a few older threads. This has been discussed at least half a dozen times. You'll find more people's opinions there.

I suggest you go to INTEL Core 2 Duo E8400. Base on it's specs:
