Driver problems for internet, sound, etc...

Hey all...
I recently installed Windoes XP x64 on my pre-Vista installed comp.
However, I forgot to get the appropriate drivers for network connection, and sound (I think).

Does anyone have a good, general idea as to where I might find drivers for my computer?
I know I should go to the manufacturer's website (which I did), but I couldn't find drivers for network (I have an HP comp.)

lol i did that once with my sister's Dell computer.

the manufacturer should have the drivers on their website.
thats where i got the ones for my sister.

the network drivers should say something like "blablabla LAN" or "blablablab 100/1000" or something like that.

look for something like that and try and download it.

then if you finally are able to get internet, go to Windows Update, and then they might have your sound drivers.

you could get the generic driver for the hardware chipset.

we will concentrate on network.

go in to your device manager and find "Ethernet Controller" right click, then properties, go to the "Details" tab, youll see a string in the big box starting like this

PCI\VEN_1234&DEV_1234

now take the VEN_1234&DEV_1234 then bung that in to google on a machine with internet, that will tell you what chipset your network card has, then you can get the appropriate drivers for it.

Or you could use something like everest or cpu-z to tell you what chipset you have.

Yah, I have CPU-Z, and I successfully found Intel drivers for my wireless network connection. However, I can't get an IP address from my router.
Windows says that Windows Zero Configuration isn't started. So I went to "services.msc" and looked for it. ITS NOT EVEN THERE!!

Is there a way I can't download it or something?

In XP64 it's called "Wireless Configuration." It is the same as XP32's "Wireless Zero Configuration."

SP2 changes it to Wirelesss Zero configuration.

My XP64 SP2 install says "Wireless Configuration" for the service name.

i was referring to x32 SP2, it was originally called Wireless Configuration or w/e, SP2 changed this.
