Possible Commit Charge = Physical Ram + Hard Drive Page File

You don't need a program to tell you how big your HD Page File is...

IF HD Page File = 0, then Possible Commit Charge = Physical Ram
Basically yeah, it's stupid that windows combines all your physical ram and the HD pagefile into one pagefile. But that's just how it is, and if you set the pagefile to 0, ie. you disable it, then it isn't like windows will say "no, i'm making a HD pagefile anyway". I've messed around with the size of my HD Page File more than a few times, and if I specify a certain size, windows doesn't spontaneously change it.

I know that with vista anway, I definitely need another HD pagefile, since I only have 2gb of RAM. Games like Supcom will use up 2gb of RAM by themselves

just buy another 2gb of ram

RAMs pretty cheap nowadays.

... unless you're talking about ddr3 which is ridiculously expensive :/

Agreed, some fools will say otherwise, but there are quite a few programs which require a page file to run.

Not quite agreeing. How many are there, actually? And I know quite a few have their own page files. That's not to mention if the OP uses any of those programs. Probably not.

i've read that some programs do require it, but they also require it to be a certain size.
Dark Mits reported on the previous page that a game needed 1GB paging size.

so setting a 200mb PF limit would be rather useless, since i will still get problems with some games that need more than 200mb.

and since i havn't had any problems with any of the programs i've used so far, i don't think i need PF for any of my programs.

There you go. As long as you don't use any program that requires a page file, you should be fine. Sometimes, being too careful just worsens the problems.

um, I have DDR .....So I'm just gonna wait till I upgrade to a new mobo and CPU, then I'll get 4gb of DDR3 probably. Yes, DDR3 is expensive compared to some DDR2 kits, but two years ago when I got my 2gb kit of Corsair XMS DDR 400, it cost ~$300, and I can get a good 4gb kit of DDR3 for a little more at newegg.

Still though, there are some great DDR2 4gb kits that are under $100....
