it's gonna be freakin epic, 512 memory bandwith, new architecture and a HUGE core size with well over 1 billion transistors

it's a gonna be fast

the good news is that they'll prectically be released at the same time,
the ATI 4 series 9800gt
AND 9900gtx (which will most likely carry a new series name instead with a new naming scheme)
can't wait, screw buying another 8800gtx
I wonder where I read that the 9900s were going to be rehashed technology...

i wonder if 512bit memory bandwidth actually does anything.

i doubt it does much, as nVidia has been releasing many cards with 256bit bandwidth, and if it was really important, they would have stuck to the 384bit bandwidth from the 8800Ultra.

Hmmm I wonder if Nvidia is cutting any corners in IQ to bring us the performance increase.

Both ATI and Nvidia have been caught redhanded in the past doing that.

Some games lost compatibility with the 174 series for me. Most of them are really old game, but City of Heroes doesn't start at all either now.
(too bad, I wanted to give the free trial a go to pass time)
There is a small indie game who doesn't seem to detect the card (or to detect the support of shaders) with the 174 series too. But considering how it's a small indie game, I'm not too surprised.

The links in that later post are not proper. Instead of being a full link, they are the "abbreviated" link with dots in them.

ie.
is *literally* a link to a file supposedly called
"Xfa...%20WinXP32.rar".

I have a feeling that is not the filename.

Nevertheless, I got the files elsewhere.

You can still get the files by just using the first link and modifying the end of them, to what the others (non-working) links said.

That's what I did to get them personally.

It does when there is enough GFX Memory to require it.

by this i mean that a video card with 1GB of 512Bit memory running at 2.0GHZ, will run much faster then 1GB of 256Bit memory running at 2.0Ghz,

But even then that is limited by the Memory controller in use. current video cards tend to use Quad channel controllers, (i believe ati's ringbus is 8-way)

So a 512mb Nvidia card would be 128x4, while an ati 512mb card would be 64x8.

correct me if im wrong.

obviously addressing 64mb chunks via 8 paths would be quicker then addressing 128mbs via 4

Let's just wait for benchies to appear, because there were some HD 3000 cards from ATI that had GDD4, but still could not match up to comparatively priced GDDR3 Nvidia cards.

in theory that makes sense,
but like MrPink says, its best to wait till the benchmarks.

sometimes with hardware, you don't get the benefits you'd expect.

it's more powerful than a 9800gtx

but in a years time buying a second 8800gt would be a bad move.
Even this may will see the ati 4 series released.

The 8 series are about to become obsolete
