And by the way, it only gets about $20 cheaper compared to the retail price. What counts is that... even with $100-300 or so poured into the OS, I can still build a computer better than Dell... and still profit! Tells you just how much they get from one computer they sell, eh?

but they have some systems for $400 with an OS and a monitor. thats a good deal, even if the system isn't top-of-the-line. the OS will be $100 and the monitor another $100. so you have to build a PC with $200... dell probably gets a very good deal with Microsoft for their OS, so they probably pay less than $20 for the OS... thats how i'm guessing they're able to sell those cheapass systems. the higher-end PCs of dell though, are complete rip-offs. they sell some $3000 PCs that you can build for less than half that amount.

I can build a PC for $200. Really.
Actually, $150. (fact is... some of their configurations can be done for as low as $100 per computer!)

Dell can produce cheaper PCs because they buy in bulk and have connections with companies. you might be able to build a $100 PC, but dell will still include speakers, a mouse, and a keyboard

The only option I have is upgrading the processor. I cannot get the money and return it. If I could have I would have done it when I got it. I just want to know if this processor can be upgraded to a better dual core. I may overclock this one in the future with the help of a puter- savvy friend.

Here you go :
Dell Inspiron Desktop Details It lists the processors compatible with it. Or so they say..... ![]() Ninja Edit : Wait, it doesn't show the E4500 due you seem to have that processor.... So to be safe. I'll suggest either any processor from the E2000, E4000, and E6000 series, DO NOT buy the Q series (Quad Core) as well as the recently released E7000 and E8000 series..... Safe bets are : E6300, E6600 E4400, E4500 (You already have this.) Maybe the E6750 will also work. I suggest this processor for you.
