GPU NVIDIA xfx 7900gs Overclock

Decided on overclocking this card via software on a Vista machine. I have run into a problem. When I use Riva tuner the overclock goes fine (set at 612mhz core) but when I set a new fan speed in Riva tuner the fan speed resets after a minute or so of a default of 29%. Any ideas?

Maybe it s throttling down to save energy? thats seems wierd though. how old is your card? it might have a faulty fan control

It's fairly new. Got it in December at Christmas. I can change the fan speed. But it always resets to 29%. Then if the GPU isn't doing any work it goes to 25%.

Double check whether the "overclock" is in 2D or 3D mode. On games, it uses 3D mode clocks, on Windows, it uses 2D mode clocks.
