i'm still iffy with the HDT method. For example, how would you lap that, or would you not even have to worry about it? Also, the small spaces between the heatpipes and the rest of the contact surface looks like it could get gummed up with old thermal paste. Though, that is being picky I admit, since how often do we reseat our HSFs?

Otherwise that OCZ Vendetta 2 was something I had never heard of before...rest assured it will find a home in my new system

Yeah, thermal paste will find a home in those places. But it's not that hard to lap an HDT HSF. Just lap it one direction... where we don't go against the valleys between the heatpipes.

As for how often I re-seat it... let's say... once or twice when I frst ordered a thing, then I'll lap it and re-seat it one last time.

The TRUE is also one massive beast of a heatsink. It's best to check it even fits your case before ordering it (if you decide to) MrPink. Although I did read and hear that a lot of TRUE's have pretty bad concaves right out of the box and give out abysmal performance unless you slop on a lot of thermal paste.

Yeah, no worries about space, I plan on getting a Coolermaster COSMOS. But concerning the TRUE, I'll probably pass on it. Its between the ZeroTherm Nirvana, or the OCZ Vendetta 2. I've read several reviews on both of those HSF, and I don't think they are that far apart in terms of cooling ability.

Xigmatek Intel LGA775 Heatsink Temperature Comparisons - HDT-S1283 FrostyTech Review

That was OCZ Vendetta 1. Just the price alone would have dethroned TRUE. $55 for a heatsink only versus $40 for a heatsink complete with fan, and if you slap a better fan on either, the results would be very... different.

Time for some HDT love at low prices.

Where have you been reading and heard? Have you ever read one of those dozen of reviews where they awards and accolades the TRUE? Did you know that the edges of an Intel processor are rounded, not completely flat.

To get the best out of the TRUE you'd need a good 120mm fan that does 70 CFM or higher. "Quality" and performance comes at a price when one's demand extreme air cooling. You know, I "might" just buy one and test it on the my system with everything the same except for the cpu cooler. And return it after I'm done with testing.

I still prefer Nirvana, which I just bought XD
it's cheap and it is among the top :]
for a market with many competitive products, the quality of the top few products are almost identical; consequently, just buy the 'cheapest' one XD

Yeah, I think the Nirvana is much more attractive than the Vendetta 2. Even though the case I'll be getting won't have a side window.

Sigh...

It'll probably be a split decision between the Vendetta 2/Nirvana/TRUE, all 3 of those products are exceptional

Be aware that most of the time, you'll need to lap the TRUE for better results.

That's called chilled-air. It's not really necessary, though... and the bills are going to give you a heart attack.

This was months ago when I was looking for a new CPU cooler myself. Can't for the love of me remember which site it was on, but it had screenshots proving just how concaved the TRUE was, not just the CPU IHS. They even made a complete separate article using that same TRUE to show people on how to lap a heatsink. Too late and tired for me to google, but if you're willing to, go right ahead

Oh yeah, and for those who were interested in the Scythe Orochi.

Calling the thing big was... an under-statement.
