my only internet connection always intermittently and slow. That's scared me to do it online. Offline always the safe way, just like flashing a PSP firmware. I hope there are a way to do it offline.

But either way you will have to download it at some point or other...even if you could install it offline (which is not possible as far as I know....at least I have never seen anything like that)...seriously just use the Nokia site, first of all check that there is a new firmware you can update to and then use the Nokia Software Updater that they offer....it's the best solution...use that after you have fully charged your phone.

I don't exactly have a blazing fast internet connection...my max download speed is 50Kb/s on this 512kbps ADSL line...although it's usually around 30kb/s...evenso it only took me slightly over an hour to update the firmware on my Nokia 6110 Navigator (which was 70MB about).

I already had the NokiaSoftwareUpdater. And the latest firmware now supported new flash format and can play youtube. I just looking for an alternative and safe solution. I wonder what might happen while I'm updating the firmware and the internet connection was disconnected?

Hmmm...that could possibly be bad....but I am afraid there is no way around it....

Why would your interenet connection disconnect? You're not on dial-up are you?

Well your only other options are to go to a service center and have them update it....or go to a friend's house or work or internet cafe or someplace with better internet and update it there...

from my memory
1. nsu download firmware to computer first instead stream it to Phone ROM.
2. if download complete then NSU will start the flashing...
of course if your inet got disconnected flashing will be canceled.
(actually dunno,i don't watch the first part of the process, but i've flash my n73 to ME and i got disconnected once )

edit: any flashing process is dangerous since it goes to the core of the device. in this cases if flashing is failed phone will NOT turn off and you can restart the process. you can search for alternative flashing procedure, find "phoenix"(don't remember the key word) in google for nsu alternative.
