A general guessimation tells me performance is going to be slightly-moderately worse than the x800 GTO. Though the card is 3 generations newer it is the weakest of the 3000 lineup. Its pretty much crap. You get what you pay for in terms of sub $50 cards.
Advantages of the 3450: - Does some of the work usually done by the cpu when running video. (good if you have a slow cpu) -Is HDCP compliant (Good for watching LEGAL HD movies) though you also need a HDCP compliant monitor and a Blu-ray drive. Disadvantages: -Weaker than the x800 GTO

google them yourself.
also go to 3dmark06 official site to see what submitted results are for computers with similar systems yet those 2 cards. Don't get the card. It sucks. Its utter crap.

Don't be so harsh? At least it's better than 8400GS.

are you so sure? I don't think so actually.
8400GS might be on par with it. Just cuz it went for a die shrink going to 55nm transistors..and got an extra 128-384mb more ram than the 8400GS... the fact of the matter is it still isn't worth him to get it. ATI fubbed on the rating system of its 3000 series cards. The 3650 is weaker than the 2600xt. And the 3450 is weaker than the 3650 and only has 900mhz ddr2 ram iirc. Just trying to be as blunt and to the point as possible.

nope its because they purposely designed the card to be weak and cheap for the very low end market. The specs on the cards are pretty weak. But thats why the card was so cheap even from the very first moment it hit the market.

Purposely weak cards like those are more meant for home theater PCs then anything else really. If you just want to watch HD stuff and play not too intensive games like C&C, it should be all right.

I think he means c&c3 the new one that came out last year. The 3450 probably not the best card to play the game on.
ahh it has a 64bit memory bus.. so anything over 256mb of ram(and maybe even 128mb ) is totally useless and just a marketing ploy.

Hit up ebay and get yourself a used X1800 for 50 bucks. or go all out and get a X1950 pro for 90 bucks.
stay away from DX10 cards if you dont have at least $140

Aww... actually, if you have $110 and a bit of luck, you might just be able to grab some deals... like the 9600GT for $109 one that just happened a few days ago.
And yea... 8400GS is supposedly... inferior to HD 3450 despite the die shrink.

Wait, I think.... They didn't do bad with their rating of the 3000 series.... Remember that the equal of the 2600XT should be the 3670.
It's like the 3850 should be the successor to the 2800 Pro and the 3870 to the 2800 XT? Just my opinion though.....

well from what i can tell from browsing the web, the 3450 is about half the speed if not less that of the Geforce 7600GT, but the X800 GTO IS half the speed of the 7600GT at least.
So spending $50 on a downgrade/non-mover would be a complete waste of money.

huh? there's such a difference between the 7600GT and the X800GTO ref? When I check benchmarks my X850XT is slightly better than the 7600GT some of the time?

7600GT is a fair bit faster than an unmodified X800GTO, and supports SM3.0. X850XT and 7600GT are a bit closer, but the 7600GT is still better overall.
I would advise the OP to hit ebay and get a better deal. X1800XT sounds a good starting point. When I buy video cards on roughly a two-year cycle, I personally always try for at least a 100% improvement in performance. |

A $50 videocard and HD video playback is an oxymoron.
who spends $50 on a videocard and then $250-300 on a bluray drive? Then more for a HDCP compliant monitor. Even if your not doing it the legal way, its still an oxymoron. Your in jakarta.. isn't high speed internet uber expensive?
