Yeah... but if you have a bypass of some sort... which sends some specific processes to that card instead of the main CPU, you get yourself some really good gaming boost. For instance, I can imagine 3DMark06 scores boosting over 10,000 using that card for the CPU stress parts.

Good for PCSX2: overclock, overclock, and even more overclock.

yeah maybe.

but it could also be that the transfering of information from the cpu and to the card, and then back to the cpu could take up more time than it helps, and maybe it would just slow things down.

I'm sending everything directly to the card. It has a CPU all in itself... and some high-speed RAM as well. Of course, transcoding x86 to PowerPC codes (it's a PowerPC processor) might just... not be so practical after all. (I'm almost x86-blind)

Wow...way off topic

We ran and compared a few Playstation 2 titles Gran Turismo 3, Virtua Fighter 4, Rygar, and Resident Evil: Code Veronica.

Method A = Standard DEF Sanyo 27' TV with Playstation 2 console using S-Video
Method B = Sharp Aquos HDTV with PS3 and HDMI (Smooth settings applied, Upscaler set to Double Scale, output set to 1080i...We allow the television to convert the interlaced output to progressive).

The picture difference huge. The upscaled PS3 versions looked so much better. To make sure we were not miss judging we loaded VF4 into our PS2. Allowed it to load a fight into memory. We then took the disc out and loaded it into the PS3. Selected the same fight characters, and compared the models side by side.

Umm... what was that?

And by the way, I have a bigass Sony 1080p HDTV (46") with a 60GB PS3 (guaranteed PS2 compatibility) and a PS2 with component cable for both and HDMI cable for PS3. Results? On the PS3, PS2 titles were more blurry, and in most cases, PS2 with component cable looks sharper.

Not sure how you have your stuff set up, but something definitely sounds wrong. What games have you tested, and what are your TV / PS3 settings?

1080p output. Upscaling: Full. Smoothing: Yes. Latest PS3 firmware. Full-range RGB: Full. Super White: On.

Direct connection to Sony HDTV.

It just looks very blurry. And I KNOW that smoothing would cause that. But if you take smoothing off, both the PS2 and the PS3 look the same. Actually, Gran Turismo 4 looks better on the PS2.

Have tried God of War, God of War 2, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, Disgaea 2, BurnOut: Revenge, Gran Turismo 4, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, and probably others as well but I don't remember that many.

P.S.: Same thing for Samsung 720p/1080i HDTV as well. IMHO, upscaling on the PS3 is bogus.

well, you are comparing two different tv's here. not only that, but you are comparing s-video to hdmi. its not a fair or accurate test at all. comapring component VS component or hdmi on the same tv is much fairer and thats where the ps3 will show any weaknesses in ps2 emulation.

erm.. yeah they will actually. Though a PSX emu on your tv will have the best look, the ps3's upscaler will look similar to how your ps1 looked on your tube tv.
similar but actually a lil worse for some reason they dont render the graphics any higher they just stretch the picture to make it full screen I highly recommend playing psx games or ps2 games(if you have the proccessor for it)on you cpu the look is much better then playing on ps3 I know I have ps3
