Hi guys i have a C2D E4500 with 2.2Ghz. i want to play Pcsx2 games like wwe svr2008 with at least 50-60fps. So can anyone tell me how can i overclock my cpu to atleast 2.6ghz or 3.0(if possible) without using a cooler?

Not possible. You NEED adequate cooling before you can even think about overclocking.

OK. sidd_deshpande, you might be misunderstanding something......

ALL processors right now has a heatsink/fan inside it.

Well, because of that an overclock is possible. Just not that high.

Just go to your BIOS and change the FSB. A little.

That's just a small fan...What he meant is extra cooling devices. You can try overclocking it bit by bit and monitoring the temperature from what I learned from the helpful people in this forum

Go to your BIOS and increase your FBS by 5 at a time and monitor your temperature when idle and at max load.

Btw, I managed to overclock mine from 2.3Ghz to 2.7Ghz with temperature at idle 27 Celsius and temperature at max load 54.(Able to go higher but I don't want to risk shortening my processor life span. I wanted it to last for 3 years. )
I got an ASUS Vento 3600 case though which has 2 extra fans in my case.

It depends on lots of factors including how good your mobo is, what is the room temperature at your place, whether the computer is right in front of the AC and also your luck with the CPU and stock fan. Make sure you install proper monitoring softwares , run the reliability tests and always keep an eye on the temperatures. Personally I think you should be able to hit 2.6 ghz easily on an E4500 if you have an AC fitted room.

My room doesn't have AC btw You should be able to reach 2.6 since I did it without AC

I've been able to reach 2.8 on an e4400 with just the stock cooler, but the difference between you and me is that I did know what I was doing. I suggest you read up well on things before you do anything drastic.

The first step to take is to install temperature monitoring software, I use Speedfan, even though not very dependable, it allows me to pick up the difference between Stock temperatures and when it's overclocked.

Second, find out what kind of motherboard you have, have a look at the BIOS just to get familiar with it. Because you will be looking at that screen for a long time. (k, dinner time, can't explain more right now, but the others will be able to help you )

I live in india summer is on the way almost there.I recently shifted the computer to a different room without an A.C. (Bummer). My room is not that hot abt 20-30 degrees.
I'll use speedfan. I don't have much choice of buying a cooler nearby shop so just use the stock cooler or fan whatever u say.

So do you think i'll reach 2.6 thats good enough for me even 2.4ghz is not bad. And yes do i need to increase the voltage???

You'll only need to increase voltage when you notice your PC crashing. My Allendale doesn't need an increased voltage for 2.8 GHz. I don't know about your chip because it's newer, but the old e4300 and e4400 didn't have much problems reaching 3GHz usually, though I don't know about voltages at such speeds.

Trial and error, just within reason and safety

Be sure to check your maximum safety voltage for your CPU; you don't want to shorten its lifespan, do you?

@ Sid

Pm me , I can help you to get a cpu cooler if you really want it.

And BTW, you gave no details about your mobo. I hope its not that stupid Intel DG33 mobo which is mostly sold with Core2duo based systems here in India coz that mobo wont overclock.

I've got my E6600 running at 3.15ghz on stock. Room temperature right now is around 20C and the max temps I get at full load is about 58-60C.

You should be able to take it up to 2.6 no problem. Probably even 3ghz. Just do your research on overclocking before you mess with anything.
