Looks like a gun from the side. And again, one huge-ass fan blowing the hell out of a copper (or aluminum) piece contacting with the GPU. So sad we don't have much room for a good GPU fan, eh? A proper fan blowing from the side (might take up two additional slots) like the current CPU HSF designs might be better for cooling. But in any case, looks like it won't be monstrously long. Thank god...

The cooler for all the brand 9800GX2s are massive...it felt like I was holding a chunk of lead in my hand. I've tested it with PCSX2, TF2, Rainbow Six:Las Vegas 2 and Assassins Creed on everything maxed and 1680x1050 resolution. The stock coolers doing its job well, it keeps it quite cool (for GPUs anyway). The thing I like about it the most? It's so much quieter then what my stock x2900XT HSF put out

The 9600GT is pretty big too. And long.
I remember thinking OMFGWHATTHEHELL when comparing it to my 7950GT, who was SO MUCH smaller (and a minuscule cooler).

I think this one takes the cake tho .

I see they are slowly extending the thickness of the card past dual slots. That think on the bottom is the beginning of the triple slot cards

j/k

It would be funny if we do start seeing triple slot cards though, who knows, maybe the 10800gx2 will be triple slotted, because of its massive heatsink.

The headquarters = USA, not Japan.
So obviously they'll be aiming for bigger instead of smaller.

once they reach 30nm im sure the size of cards will start shrinking again.

And evidently, we don't want to have graphics card the size of our monitors now. ;p They are already a bit longer than most of our d**ks. (apparently bigger)

Bring it to the bin, and I'll open a Q & A thread.

And treally... we just don't need really big graphics card for any reason at all. But for some interesting builds, we can... try to have our graphics card stand up instead of lying down. Just like our d... uhhh... you know what? Let's just leave the rest to the bin.

LOL!!! Man, this thread is sinking lower and lower every day. Man oh man! D*** jokes, now THAT'S original!!! LOL!!

on a more serious note, GPUs are indeed too big. my 8800GTS (640MB) is heavier than some of the laptops you can find online today. I think that the future of the geforce and the radeon family cards will be the same as the Nvidia Quadro - you'll have 2 cases, one for the motherboard, CPU, RAM, Hard Drive/s and DVDs/Blu-Rays and the other case will be ONLY for the power supply and graphics cards, just like the Nvidia QuadroPLEX 1000 GPU rack systems you can buy today.

personally I think that right now we need more breakthroughs in the CPU department since most of recent GPUs have an output that can only be matched by atleast 20 of the best Quad-Core CPUs Intel and AMD can offer today, and I'm talking about server-grade CPUs!

P.S.
Keep it up with the D*** jokes!!! LOL!!!

I smell Scandal RAP. I thought you would stop grinding that EEE since your back with your girlfriend?

Anyway, my old ATI x1950 was pretty heavy as well (i sold it new for 50 dollars )

What do you mean by the gpu is better then the cpu? there architectures are wildly different

the gpu is stronger than the cpu only if you compare statistics about their data transfer rates and information proccessing capabilities.

both of them have to be balanced. if you check gpu benchmarks with different cpus, you will see a difference in quality. full potential will be achieved only when the two are truely united as one, both in strength and speed.(just like fusion in DBZ).

to be honest, i prefer to have a QuadroPLEX with 4 QFX5600 (stock-clocked G80, 384bit, 1.5GB GDDR3 each) with SDI technology and a two-CPU motherboard with the best AMD has to offer (no sence wasting so much money on Intel).

My girlfriend is a tech-loving, game-loving, anime-loving, art-loving, and especially... me-loving girl.

Heh, the NVIDIA 8600 GeForce GT I purchased was too freaking big, 2 slot monster, but I like the graphics on Half Life 2 with it.

Yeah I'm easy to please.

I hope Mass Effect looks good with it. I wonder how it'll compare to the XBOX 360 version on my system?

what brand of 8600gt are dualslot? thats pretty pointless imo. Due you overclock the 8600gt to gts or slightly greater than gts levels?

I've seen 8600GTs with those dinky little fan coolers. Why would that card need a dual slot cooler ?
