this app drives my power supply decisions
i found this online power supply calculator last year, and it is what guided me towards the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 that i am using now. now according to that calculator, i could add another 8800gtx for SLI, and replace my socket 939 with a new LGA 775 mobo and a nice new yorkfield quad. so is this calculator accurate? because according to it, i can keep using my Silencer 750 quad for a new SLI rig with a pretty high end quad core CPU.

Sort of. However, I think it's not generally a good idea to max out your power supplies power, as power supplies have a minor chance of taking out your motherboard and the devices connected to it as well.

right, i already know that you should never load a PSU 100%.
i was just asking if it seemed normal that a 45nm quad core CPU along with SLI only draws about 500 watts of power. this seems like the dream setup for many people, i can't even think of what else you could add to get the power usage anywhere near 1kw! guess i'll just keep the 750 watt i have. its a great PSU, and i'm glad i won't have to buy another as they are somewhat pricey.
