I Realisedi Got Ripped Off!!
Back in the summer, i didnt know much about new 775 processors, and my dad goes and tells me to get a barebones, and i do, and it said core2duo system. When really it was an e2160, which is a regular Intel Pentium, a rather sucky one at that. I got ripped off for like 200$!!
I got the processor, a cheap case, and an asrock dual vsta board. Now The processor goes for like 50 bucks, the mobo goes for 50$ and the case goes for 20$!! and i paid 300 total. Cause i listend to my father...I really shouldnt have that time.... I couldve had an e6600

Well, while E2160 is not exactly a Core 2 Duo, it definitely isn't a "regular Pentium" either. E2160 has the same core architecture as the rest of the C2D family except it only has 1MB of L2 cache, whereas other C2Ds, such as E4300, has 2MB or more. It is just as overclockable as the other C2D chips, and the lack of L2 cache only affects performance in few cases, such as games. It's what I'm running right now, too.

And they can also clock at speeds that are quite high... I could get my E2140 to 3.2GHz (100% OC) stable, so I do believe it's entirely possible for the E2160 to get to 3.00GHz at least.
Don't be so discouraged by the chip. Maybe it's the mainboard.

The big problem is NOT the processor. It's something else, I'm voting for motherboard followed by RAM.

You got a C2D, just not a Conroe, like Stilz said
![]() Of course shops rip you off like that, that's what happens usually, they sell a cheaper part as if it's the latest thing. We made a big step with performance when the 2.x GHz Conroes were released, but later on Intel released a lot of budget parts that were actually inferior to AMD's processors, they just sold well because 1. They have the Intel and C2D brand (to n00bs) 2. They overclock well (to advanced users) Anyway, you can overclock it, but you won't get any further than raising your FSB to ~285MHz, since that's where the entire stuff will just lock up, I'm on the same mobo, I just have an e4400. Just be glad you didn't get an e6300, because that one won't overclock at all, given its default 266FSB. |

The E2xxx is part of the Core 2 Duo line up, it's just the budget chips. Less cache, smaller FSB but it's a C2D
And of course the price has dropped drastically since the summer, have you seen the stuff Intel has pushed out since then ?

Yes. A quad-core running at 3.80GHz 24/7 on low voltage... and a monstrous dual-core running at 4.20GHz 24/7 on a little bit higher voltage.

They're missing out on a lot then.
Hmm... and if you check my X3350 thread, you can see that... pushing for speed is good... updated with dual PCSX2 running on... quad cores. I mean... you gotta make the best out of your purchase, right?

And I'm going to go beyond that to see how much I can get out of my purchases... and then you can get one yourself, or if supply is scarce, maybe I can sell something to you.
Hey, they are all tried products, at least, right?

well the way your going, the only place that would take your cpu is a boob factory, because melted silicon don't work to well in most pc's

Well, silicons running at under 50C is acceptable, right?
I always check my temperatures when I OC my stuffs, mainly because I want to make sure nothing will burn out. So far, nothing has gone beyond 70C even on extreme clocks that would usually melt others.

hmm that reminds me..when i was at microcenter for my interview, i met a guy who had a water cooling system. the pump broke while he was at work, and his cpu temp was leveled at 120c when he got home. i don't know how his cpu survived it..

These things have their maximum TJunction values at 96C to 105C. Needless to say, if you stay at least 10C away from that, you're fine. Just that anything above 75C is a little too hot, and your chip may start giving weird results and crashes.

Barely?
My new chips would turn the entire computer off if they reach 100C, though, and that happens in every motherboard.
