OCing crap processor

Well, i was trying to oc my processor more. I had the processor at like 2.5 and it was running prety stable, but i would get a blue screen here and there. But i was trying to overclock more, so i tried to change the multiplier up to like 11X with a fsb of 1033. So it would give me a 3.0ghz oc. But even if i lower the multiplier down to minimum of 6 or raise it up, it still goes back to 9X multiplier. How can i get it to stay?

Oh yeah specs may be handy:
Abit Fatal1ty fp-in9 sli mobo
Pentium e2160
(sad processor i know, realized i got ripped off damn you ebay)
4 gigs of crap pc-4200ddr2 ram

-Another topic, what better processor can i get for 100$ or less?

Actually, i just realised i can go down for the multiplier but not up... when it gives option 6-60...

You know... I can get a E2140 to 3.2GHz stable 24/7 with this motherboard. Here's a quick SuperPI 1M

So... I do think you can get that E2140 to at least 3.00GHz stable. Try upping the VCore manually? 1.4V would be plenty enough for a stable 3.00GHz. Try... 9 x 333MHz.

Actually thats a half decent core2 duo you got there bubbafat.

You your very likely going to be held back by your memory in overclocking to 3.0ghz with the crappy 533hz generic ddr2 ram you have.

I don't know about your motherboard, it may be a limiting factor as well. Just cuz it has that game celebrity Fat1lity's name on it doesn't guarantee itll be great.

Sad reality...? Anyway, Abit motherboards are quite decent nowadays, I think. You just need a pretty good pair o' RAM to overclock. If your goal is 3GHz stable ONLY, you can get 667MHz sticks for cheap. But if you want 3.6GHz, which I think is... totally possible, you need to get 800MHz sticks.

Yeah, it is my ram i have found...And i have a question, if i leave my ram at the stock and raise my cpu to 2.7 it works. (highest ve gotten is 2.6 and have it boot) But if i have it goand raise the ram spped to it usually messes up after a certain point. Do i have to change the voltage of the ram to?

Hold on- i wanna set this out right here. OC Working fine with this:
FSB-1156 which makes it 2.601ghz
9X multiplier And the ram auto adjusts to 770.7
With cpu voltage of 1.35

And what is the "CPU VTT VOLTAGE" ?

Yes, you do have to change the voltage of the RAM. I'm guessing... if your RAM sticks don't have heatspreaders, you should only go up to 2.00V to avoid overheating. Is there any way to reduce the RAM? As far as I know, you can get 2.4GHz (266 x 9) stable at 1066MHz FSB with your RAM at 533MHz just fine... and on any board, too.
