Well, when I'm talking about the performance per buck. I'm not talking about the Athlons.... I'm actually talking about the Semprons. Basically the cheapest things around. Not the mid range or the enthusiast.

It's because computer shops here prefer to buy the cheapest things around so they make more computers on the same amount of money. Not to mention those crappy asian MMORPG that have requirements that can run on Pentium 3's and crappy video cards as well that customers oh so enjoy slaving away to.

Well......Intel may be number one, but AMD puts up quite a good fight.
Personally I admire AMD a lot, mainly due to the fact that they EXIST!!!
When you are alone you get slow, sloppy and eventually no one wants to buy your stuff.
Same thing is happening to this world right now - the cold war began in 1933 (many of you might disagree with me on this, but in 1933 the nazi party came to power in Germany and through talks and meetings turned England and France against Russia, making them paranoid and suspicious as to the "true" intentions of comunism...and blah blah blah) and ended in 1991.
In less than sixty years we have created the jet engine, world wide commercial and passenger flights, the atomic bomb (

), the H-bomb (

), the internet, space flights, cell phones, computers, modern cars and so many other things - this was all done because the world was just one push of a button away from being fried (just like my avatar).
The problem is that the moment the world was "safe" from an otherwise horrifying fate, everything slowed down to a crawl.
No more massive advancements in health, technology, business or even weapons, and thats alarming since as human beings, the only thing we are really good at is killing each other in increasingly elaborate ways.
This picture should show you that if Intel had no one to race against, we would all still have single core CPUs with 2GHz max.
Thats why AMD is so important - it brings balance to the world of hardware.

No, i7 is pretty good on paper (since its not out yet and no one can verify the benchmarks that were posted online so far).

However, it will require a lot of changes in order to use.

It also has a significant downside which is the limitaion put on memory modules, which allows only DDR3 modules on the X58/nforce800/AMD800 chipsets.

Other than that I think it should perform pretty well, though that is yet to be seen.

Regardless of Intel vs AMD, MMOrpgs are really addictive. Which is why I only play CS1.6 sometimes

Not likely to happen in the near future...maybe in ten years.
Intel has some much money in its annual development budget that it makes AMD's budget look like a single wet noodle on the kitchen floor.

The only thing AMD has on its side is spirit and the will to push as far as possible, as hard as possible.

Intel's new i7 Processors are supposedly 20% better than their C2Q. If this is the case, it's bad news for AMD. Reason being is that AMD's Quad-Cores, although good chips for the money, already fall behind Intel's by about 30-35%. However, AMD claims that the new AM3 processors will increase proformace gains by about 20-30%. Meaning, at least the way I see it, that AMD's AM3 processors will run at the same proformace levels as Intel's C2D & C2Q, but also meaning the 30-35% gap will exist between the new i7's and AM3's. Altogether, if the price is right and AMD's AM3 processors are less money then Intel's i7's ( Starting price stated at about $275 for a "base" model) then I will go with AMD. Point being is that if you compare a chip for AMD and Intel, Intel wins by... I don't know lets say average of 33%, but the AMD cost 50% less, then the AMD IS the "best bang for your buck processor". I do hope that AMD in 2010 comes out with something better, not better in the sense that they out preform Intel's chips, but enough so that they stay in the game and have better prices. Because unless you "need" that extra power, such as a "all-in-one" media pc or even a pc that runs almost everything in the house. Just buy from the company that gives you the best price for the proformace. Intel makes great chips for their price, and so does AMD. Just make sure one doesn't put the other out of production, because then all of us will pay $200-300 for a pos word/office level computing processor.

Nothing?... AMDs still got quite the market. You don't think they don't cater to other big companies? Not to mention the lay offs they've had in the past couple years have off set some of their losses.
