Do you seriously think heat is going to dissuade customers from an intelligent purchase??????

If they settle and go for Deneb then they take all the risks that go with it.....

Exclamation

games are hardly a "requirement" when considering a pc though.....it's more of a luxury.... Neither is a graphics card that "goes to the Moon and back"......

How is buying a CPU that produces a massive amount of heat and costs an arm and a leg an intelligent purchase? The more intelligent purchase would be buying a model that fits your needs.

You just want the best. Even though someone like you obviously doesn't need it.

I bought it so I wouldn't have to stick 2 different GPU boards into 2 separate PCI-E slots. When I bought the GX2, I was using a motherboard with only 1 PCI-E slot. There was no need for me to replace the motherboard too. And of course I did want to future proof myself for at least a couple years, so a dual GPU solution was best for me.

So yes, it was an intelligent purchase. Because I actually use the GPU to its extreme. Especially with my monitor.

No average person needs Intel top i7 core. No one.

That's all I wanted to do...If it had been reasonable I would have put the QX9770 in here instead...but it was 2000.00 and still is 2000.00

Just looking to futureproof too....:

I know the i7 975 isn't necessary...

Or 920 I think it was.....

PCSX2 will never require more CPU power than it currently uses and according to refraction quad (or more cores) support is never planned and would be just about impossible to implement due to PS2 emulation not really being able to split anymore than it currently is (In other words quad support might be doable, but the improvement would be like 1% as PCSX2 is already split as efficiently as is possible without being stupid about it.

And as for "next-gen emulation"...nothing currently out has a hope of running anything decently....

But why the QX9770? There's no point.

Settle for a Q9550, overclock it to beyond the QX9770 stock performance and save a butt load of money.

All you want is the best money can buy, just for gloating and showing people that you have it. You have no need for something like a QX9770. No one really does. The only people I know who have them are ones with too much money or they actually use it for something useful...like their jobs.

The QX9770 requires water cooling btw

At stock clock speed? -.- It's all depend on how much you want to overclock it and beside, if you have one of the top air coolers then water isn't really necessary.

You got a point about the overclocking beyond the stock, but I wanted something that has the smae speed as I got now, only the 2 extra bonus cores...since Quad seems to be such a big thing nowadays...

It ain't realy for gloating, but more like "you're in this life once, so if this is your only chance , may as go for the brass ring"

If I had a chance to redo this rig again, I'd probably go for the QX9650 and a lesser motherboard...

Quad really isn't needed. Especially if you already have a dual chip in the 4Ghz range. Not many things take advantage of quad cores. And I highly doubt you use something that does

Just a heads up on processors.

The smaller the gate size from now on, the more expensive it will become.

32nm is on the verge of cheap fabrication by the way.
