All relative.

Do I want to pay through the nose for something that performs a little better? Not me, and also quite a few people as well (i7 sales have been abysmal).

And 8 cores will be useless unless they're utilized. You should've realized more isn't always better Gameman. It's because of amateur comments like that that no one here takes you seriously.

They're not, as 8 cores are almost completely useless at the moment, except in highly situational scenarios.

Tri-cores should never have existed, they only do because AMD failed on the first Phenom Quads and decided to market them as Tri-cores instead.
Thus no they don't need to go through every single number of cores first, genereally they just double them.

There has been no plans, no rumors to even suggest those ideas. Tri core was a flop that, like Schumi said, shouldn't have existed. 5 and 7 will never see the light of day.

Where did you even get this idea? I remember no mention of this from anyone. Show me a link and maybe I'll start thinking about the idea...and how much it fails.

I don't think it's a failure anymore, but rather a marketing choice. They realised when they sold the original dud Phenom Quads as tri-cores that there's a lucrative market from people who don't have enough money for a quad but still think more cores than a dual-core would be beneficial to them and so they cater for that market.
In fact I am fairly sure they already started doing that since about halfway through the original Phenom series.
