The Barton rocked. Best CPU I've ever bought, value wise.

@redlofredlof: not all pentium 4's are Northwood, there were also willamette (like IDSG89 had), there were also the Prescott (pressHOT ) and the Gallatin (extreme editions)
and afaik, the willamette ones requires the uber expensive RAMBUS memory

my P4 was a real sweetheart, the last game which I played on it was overlord.
It even ran nfs prostreet demo but used to crash randomly(don't know why)
I used it for 4 years without any problem, once my motherboard blew up but the cpu still survived, then my video card blew up then also cpu was fine, lastly cpu fan blew up and then I had to replace it.

Mine was intel pentium4 2.40B, I just saw it box. But nothing else is mentioned like northwoor or willamette

So the orders like this right? (performance and clock speed wise):

Williamatte
Northwood
Prescott
Gallatin

The Gallatins are the Pentium 4 Extreme Editions right? 3.6-3.8GHz? That's gotta rule in SuperPI (well.......not really)

AFAIK, the northwoods were a little more efficient per clock and wasn't an oven as the prescott, but the maximum clock speed was limited to 3.0 - 3.4 maximun, also existed the cedar mill That was a 65 nm version of the prescott

My friend had Intel pentium 4 3.0GHz and motherboard was Intel D865GBF
I have to say it was an epic fail
within 2 weeks the northbridge got fried
that too without overclocking.

AMD just got some money!

So, what does everyone think about AMD getting an extra 6 billion in cash and the focus on design rather than the costly manufacturing of chipmaking?

AMD has always been about thought out design, rather then all out mhz pumping.

Since Nehalme doesn't offer much to the gaming area this is a good chance for AMD to take advantage of it! But this could all change if Westmere come out (the 32nm shrink version of Nehalme, aka the successor of Nehalme). Best of luck to youuuuu AMD! xD

@ViperXtreme - look at my sig - willamette supported DDR ram modules , not only rambus and SDRAM . RDRAM was used only in the short lived socket 423
