Problems With Shoulder Buttons

I've been using ePSXe for a few weeks now, and I've had no problems, but I've noticed that every time I try to use any of the shoulder buttons (sometimes R1 and L1, but every time I press R2/L2), the entire game freezes.

This is a problem, because I can't play most shooters, as well as Final Fantasy 7 (no way to run/change the single/all options in battles).

Is there any way to change this?

Welcome to Emuforums, PlayMadness!

Very strange... Which gamepad are you using?

Make sure you have no game profiles active in configuration tool, if your pad supports them.

To what keys have you mapped the shoulder buttons?

L2 is 1 and R2 is 9, but I've tried them mapped to multiple keys, including q/e and u/o, and I've had the same problem.

@playmadness

do you have access to some sort of pc gamepad or console controller that will work on a pc? have you tried mapping those buttons (only the shoulder buttons, keep everything else mapped to your keyboard) to something like that and seeing if they still make the game freeze when pressed? this is about the last thing i can think of now, your issue really has me stumped. ive been using epsxe for quite some time now and i have never come across this sort of thing, ususally any control issues i have are caused by me unintentionally disabling the analog mode while playing a game by hitting the f5 key. one other thing, how is this freeze triggered for you? does it happen when you press two or more of the buttons at once (holding two of them down in order to run from battle in ff7, for example) or does it freeze even if you just press one of them?
