ePSXe Application Error. Please Help
I'm trying to use ePSXe 1.6.0 to play games (final fantasy tactics specifically), however, the emulator continually crashes and gives the following application error:
"The instruction at 0x011d1aa0 referenced memory at 0xffffffff. The memory could not be read". Now, the problem fixes when I restart the computer and run the game (either from original cd or iso made from the cd), but only for the first time after the restart. If I exit the emulator and decide to play again at a later time, I get the application error I just mentioned. I play other games unrelated to emulators (company of heroes, world of warcraft) without issue. I've tried everything listed in the Troubleshooting guide, including updating gfx card drivers and trying a new emulator. I tried the pSX emulator and got the same issue, exactly as I've described it for the ePSXe. I've also searched through the forums to find someone who had the same issue and had it resolved, but again, to no avail. So, I figured it was ok to make this thread. Here are my computer's specs: Dell Lattitude D610 laptop MS Windows XP Professional Intel Pentium M 2.0 GHz 1024 MB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon X300 DirectX 9.0c This happens no matter what plugins I use as well (pete's opengl 1.76 and opengl2 2.8, pete's d3d 1.76, dx6 d3d 1.76, P.E.Op.S Soft 1.17, Lewpy's 3dfx/Glide gpu 1.40) I would truly appreciate it if someone would help with this. |

Are you playing off ISO or the original disc? If one, try the other.
Since you're using a laptop, make sure that 1. It's not going into any powersaving modes (usually plugging it in turns these off) 2. It's not getting too hot (take it off your lap, make sure it has ventilation) Have you tried emulating any other games? |

I've tried emulating xenogears on the epsxe as well, and I have the same issue; it works right after a reboot, but not after restarting the emulator. For xenogears, I tried only the cd, for tactics, I tried both the cd and the iso. For the most part, including the first instance of this problem, my laptop has been on my computer desk. The computer remains plugged in, and I have it set not to go into power save mode.
edit: I also tried using a registry cleaner to see if that would help. It did not. Last edited by Barles; February 15th, 2007 at 18:32. |

Good point...I don't know how to look at the registry and look for something the registry editor might've missed, but I haven't tried running anti spyware and anti virus programs. I'll do that and post an update.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to this thread, I've been severely busy, to the point that I just couldn't play much games at all. Anyway, I ran adaware and symantec anti-virus, and the problem persisted.
Now, I think I've localized the problem to the controller I'm using. Its a psx controller connected through the EMS PS2 to USB Adapter. I've found that I don't have the problem when I use the laptop keyboard to play. I know its a long shot, but if anyone has any advice on making this work, I would appreciate it. Thanks again |
