need new Video Card , for....OpenGL2 plugin with Shaders ? recommendations

hi team , ......... i am looking for a new Video Card and was wondering what would be sufficient to achieve ....and with a small amount of power in reserve

-Pete's OpenGL2 plugin with Shaders (Natural Vision ....etc)
-800x600 Resolution
-able to use HQ settings , not just basic OpenGL2 Shader settings
-with consistant full frame rate

I suggest if you have agp, get a Geforce 6600 if you wanna run at full fps with shaders

Pff, 800x600 resolution? I was using custom shaders with my 5600 @ 1152x864. So pretty much anything better than that will do what you need.

My 6200 works nice, it's an AGP card, he might not want to invest too much if he's using AGP as whenever he upgrades, the next motherboard pro'lly wont support AGP...

If he has a PCI-e, I'd think about a GeForce 7 series, particularly if you want to play PC games and anything graphics intensive...

I'm happy with my 6200 at the moment...

They are very close in performance. Just 5% difference or so. If I were u I would go with the Geforce 7300GT since its a tad bit faster and just a few bucks more.

I like my 6200, although it's AGP, the 7300 would be nice, and if you changed your mind to dabble in PC gaming, it'd work with a lot of games...

But the choice is yours, IIRC OpenGL is better on NVIDIA than ATI, but maybe I'm wrong?

When I was first messing with Future Pinball, a pinball emulator/simulator for the PC, ATI cards under performed NVIDIA cards and the reason seemed to be linked to Open GL, it seemed Open GL support on ATI cards lower than 9800 seemed poor, of course PCI-e cards may not have that problem, I'm just going off what I witnessed.

Ya i believe so. It is a hassle to get ATI cards to work with max internal resolution. Not only did it take lots of drivers to fix it, but also a little tampering with the settings. But as of CAT 7.1, i don't see much difference between ati and nvidia in opengl anymore. Well nvidia may be ahead, but just by a bit.

If you intend to play emulators like Chankast or PCSX2 you will need fast cpu...Of course 3800+ will work great in ePSXe but I think that it isn't a smart buy. A year ago X2 3800+ would the best solution for you but now it would smarter to go for Intel core 2 duo(E6300) system with a cheap 965 mobo.
Are going to overclock your system?

You don't need much for what you want....but I still suggest to buy a C2D there is no big price difference.
