Will playing the original copy harm the disk?
I hope I'm in the correct forum for this...
This may seem like a stupid question, but when playing PSX games on the with the ePSXE on my computer the CD gets extremely hot very quickly, is this safe for the disk/system? or should I make a backup on my computer and play it there? I've noticed that this doesn't happen to the same degree on my PS2. |

A backup is always good. Playing from an ISO is "safer".
If the disc is warped, it doesnt matter where you play it, its unsafe. You could probably reduce the disc spinning speed for your computer, to guarantee a safety margin for your disc usage. Will be slower but probably worth it, if only from 52x to 42x or so. |

PC CD/DVD drives spin much faster than console ones, that's why they heat more... you shouldn't worry about it, but if you really want to reduce this problem, make an image from your CD (alcohol120% or cloneCD will do the job) or lock your drive speed by using an alternate software (iirc there's a Nero tool for that)

Thanks for the info guys. I'll take your advice and use Alcohol 120% to make a backup (I'm fairly new at this, but trial and error have worked pretty well so far).
I'm fairly sure that the problem isn't the disk, since I've tried FFVII & IX and had the same problem with both disks (disk one of each game). |

It's no big deal if they heat, but if you can play from an ISO it's always better, it prevents the game from freezing on load times. Problem that often happens do to the fact that PC drives automaticly spin down after a while when they're not asked to read data, while consoles ones don't so they don't
