HUGE problems, I mean it, they're huge...

Well, maybe not as huge as you may be prepared for, but yeah, these things have really been annoying me all day.

First off, I have this damned issue where the game I'm playing just freezes... even though there can still be animation going on. I heard this is due to an instability in the CPU or something, if that's the case, I guess it can't be helped, but a year-old pc shouldn't get overclocked simply playing a PSX game, should it?

Secondly, after getting a new driver for my Graphics card, I'm unable to use Pete's OGL 2.8 Video plugin due to a loss of a "WGL extension". I read around here and started trying with the earlier plugin that had been posted, but alas, the games are slow (and I mean, slow, literally, unplayable cos of it) no matter what plugins/configurations I try...

so now, I'm pretty much lost of what to do, and losing the will to live..... ok, maybe not losing the will to live, but it's bloody annoying how this has all turned out.

Please help a lowly newbie ^^;
(Oh, btw, my Graphics card was currently working with petes OGL2.8 perfectly, it's a GeForce FX 5700VE model)

Uninstall video driver completely and then install the new one.

ah, thanks for the reply, I dn't know much about GFX cards I'm afraid...
Once I uninstall it, could my pc still have a visual display?
and if so, could I uninstall it from a file from the internet/searching for drivers in windows? COs I don't have the original disks that came with it ^^;

Shendo don't give invalid advice.
your hardware doesn't have wgl extensions, those are pixel shaders which is a newer technology than geforce 5. Use the earlier pete's opengl plugin instead.

find drivers at www.nvidia.com
download them, then don't do anything more with it untill i say so.
go to control panel->system (or right click "my computer" and click properties)
hardware tab, click device manager.
expand "display adapters" and select the entry here and click the properties button.
find "uninstall driver" on one of the tabs and ignore any warnings windows gives you.
restart your computer (when it starts, visuals will be a lot less colorfull and at a max resolution of 800x600)
now find the driver you downloaded and double click it and proceed with the installation.
now restart once more and when it starts again, right click an empty spot on the desktop, click properties go to the advanced tab and drag the bar there all the way to the right and set color to "high", hit ok and say you want to use settings without restarting if asked.

you're ready with updated drivers!!

And emulation isn't perfect, so expect hangs (if they become frequent, make sure disk is clean and that you don't use savestates)

You are giving the false information.
Even a GeForce 5200 FX can work with Pete's OGL2, GeForce FX 5700VE should be working just fine.

But anyway, Sailin just follow darth sephiroth's advice and you will be fine.

Trying out your solution Darth. I'll post in about 10-15 mins to tell the results
But Shendo's right, as I said earlier, my GFX card was working perfectly with petes OGL2 plugin before the driver bussiness, only fault was the constant freezes (I checked the disks btw, all clean <.<

EDIT: Did what you said Darth ^^ thanks, the plugin's working perfectly (as Shendo and I predicted) on my graphics card lol

I still get the issue with my games freezing despite disk quality... wondering if defragmenting my Hard Drive will do anything? or perhaps shutting down that pesky Kaspersky antivirus during gameplay.... hmmm

Ahhhh, Just realised one palce that it likes to freeze.... Right before the victory sequence in FF8, and after the first boss in brave fencer musashi, are these normal/solvable problems?

hmm i was referring to the wgl extensions. ti4200 can work with ogl2...
if it asks for wgl extensions that means you're enabling pixel shaders is what i tried to say although i forgot to advice trying to turn them off.

also, use epsxe 1.5.2 for final fantasy games. 1.6.0 has problems when sprites overlap mdec's (the cinematics)

^^: it's 1.5.2 that I'm using
1.6.0 is too buggy IMO
