Epsxe DirectX Plug-in Problems
Everytime I try to run a PSX ISO, any game or ISO, using either Epsxe 1.6 or 1.5.2 and using one of Pete's D3D or DX6 video plug-ins, the game won't start up and instead the program will crash. Usually it will pop up with the "This program needs to close" or some Windows dialog as such.
I'm running WinXP Home SP2 with a VISIONTEK ATI Radeon 9200SE 128MB at 800x600 Resolution and a 75hz refresh rate. I'm also running DirectX 9.0c. I've tried reinstalling the plug-ins, but it doesn't work. Games will only run using an OpenGL plug-in. What's the problem with the DirectX plug-ins? |

As far as I know, I'm running the ATI Catalyst 6.1 drivers, although the latest version is Catalyst 6.5. I've been running games using Pete's OpenGL2 plug-in, and it works fine, but I'm wondering if performance would be better running a DirectX plug-in (specifically for Tales of Destiny). Since I've heard that ATI cards seem more perferred to DirectX over OpenGL, I wanted to see if games would run better, but if the plug-ins crash the emulator, then that wouldn't be possible.

Also, like hushy said, try the original Ogl plugin, it's more designed for performance than compatability.

Well regardless....I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Drivers and decided to update. Now what happens is that no matter what version of Catalyst drivers I try to install, I get the error "This driver is not compatible with the installed adapater(s)." during the installation and then nothing installs. Now I can't install the drivers for the ATI card! What can I do?!

Dig up the driver disk that followed your ati card and install that one. and then upgrade with the "update" button in the device manager (instead of uninstalling first), or try "roll back driver". Then contact ATI/look at their support sections. And if that doesn't work, you've got to reinstall your OS i am afraid.

I was afraid of something like reinstalling the OS. Luckily someone pointed out System Restore. I was able to use that to restore the computer back to a recent point before I bothered to mess with the ATI drivers. Now everything seems to be in working condition.

Congratulations my friend, "seems to be in working condition" includes the epsxe right?

Actually, that didn't include the ePSXe plug-ins. I'm still searching for a solution to that. "Working condition" means that my video card is working optimally. I'm pretty happy that I was able to get my computer back to the way it was before I started messing with the ATI drivers.
I would like to have the plug-ins work, but not at the expense of system stability. |

Did you try the original ogl plugin yet? (not ogl 2)

Yes, I have tried the original Pete OpenGL plug-in, and that seems to work. It's only the D3D and the DX6 plug-ins that don't work. Maybe it's because I have DirectX 9.0c and the Radeon 9200SE only supports DirectX 8?

No, direct X is backwards compatible.
If you knew what direct X was, you'd know that not having it backwards compatible would ruin most of the entire point in it.

Fine, if it's not the DirectX drivers, then I still have no idea what it is. I'm actually running Catalyst 5.6 drivers for my video card, which might be a bit outdated, but I don't want to update because they work completely fine except for these DirectX plug-ins.
