i'd say use the direct dx6 3d plugin made by Pete
that's the most compatible with mesa based cards (like ATI)

and then press the "nice" button (do not use any filters/shaders, they're just ugly.)

Don't listen to seph, 9600 cards support DX9 as well as OpenGL plugins perfectly, I even used the OGL2 plugin with my 9800. Try OGL2 if it doesn't run to slow, as it's the most compatible GPU plugin and has the best graphic enhancement features (after the software one of course)

I'll quote your members title "i'm not tech support! ok?"

i thought the dx9 plugin was mesa based?

the DX6 D3D plugin is not the most compatible. it doesn't support subtractive blending, the OGL plugin does. there are lots of other things. the D3D DX6 plugin is Pete's worst plugin, it's meant for very old cards.

Why didn't you bother to read what everyone posted? Try it, if it doesn't run slow then stick with it.
