Thrustmaster Gamepad D-Mode

http://www.thrustmaster.com/eng/d_prd.php?p=T174&fam=5

This is my gamepad. Normally, when I put it in Digital Mode(Analog Light Off) the left stick mimicks the D-Pad, but when I try to play a PSX game that uses Digital Mode(Umihara Kawase 2nd Edition) it won't respond at all unless I use Analog Mode.

Could it be the game's limitation?
Some games do not allow the d-pad to be used even if the analog is off.

right, i hope i can explain this.

the light on the controller is NOT the PSX analog switch.

when you have the analog switch off, your Dpad is the X and Y axis. when you have the analog switch on, the Dpad is either buttons 13-16 or the POV hat (depending on the controller).

when you configured ePSXe, i'm guessing you had the analog button on. therefore, ePSXe thinks that buttons 13-16 are Dpad, and it thinks X and Y axis are analog. so when you turn the switch off, you think you're using the dpad, but ePSXe thinks you're using the X and Y axis (analog sticks).

it sounds strange to some people, and it did to me originally, but keep the analog light on all the time. let ePSXe control it--simply press F5.

F5 is the ingame toggle for analog and digital. so, in short, always keep the analog light on, and use the emulator to switch in between.

Thanks, I'll try that. I ended up using joy2key, but maybe your way is better.

PS: If you haven't tried playing Umihara Kawase, do it.

I prefer the PSX version. The rom image is a bit bigger(1MB vs 100MB), but if you can find the PSX version, it is better.

my way is better, because it's the correct way.

it's like if you want to go to the 3rd story of a building. you can possibly take the stairs, you can take the elevator. or you could go batman style and shoot a rope with a hook into it in the 3rd floor window and climb up. either way you're getting to the third floor; but one of those methods is much, much easier.

keep the analog button all the time on the controller. press F5 in game to switch between the "virtual" analog button. it doesn't get any easier than that

I'm playing Umihara Kawase, so I'd probably do it Batman style. F5...ok, I'll do that.

Edit: Tried it you way(set the controls in analog mode, kept analog mode on, booted the game, pressed F5). It didn't work, I pressed F5 several times and tried each mode, but the left stick never worked, though sometimes the D-Pad stopped working.

I just set the controls in Digital Mode and it works fine. The "virtual" analog buton shouldn't work, because by default, the PSX controller disables the analog sticks completly in digital mode. The feature of making the stick mimic the D-pad is a controller feature.

Should have thought of setting the controls in digital mode before...sorry.
