CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive won't read CDR's

Hey everybody -

I just had a quick question for whomever has a second.

My CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive cannot read Playstation games, at all, on my IBM R51 Thinkpad. When I insert a game (and I've tried this with about 12 CDR backups), the drive begins to whir at a high speed, and then does nothing. I can't explore the CD through My Computer (it hangs when I attempt to right-click on the drive), and epsxe hangs at a black screen when I attempt to read from CD-ROM.

My earlier model computer, with a simple CD-ROM, was able to read these backups just fine. My current CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive can read any other type of CD or DVD, just not these backups.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your time!

- MG

Certain pc drives are picky when it comes to backups. For example, I recently remastered some dvd's. My burned, custom copies worked fine in my regular dvd player, but my laptop dvd+r/rw drive couldn't read them at all.

Is this a problem that a driver/firmware update could fix, or should I just invest in a cheap external drive to solve the problem? Or possibly rip the cd's to iso's on a buddy's computer and burn them that way?

the original discs work right? just get those and rip the ISOs to your hard drive. laptop CD drives will be really crappy with PSX games anyway, and external drives are slow.

External drives won't work anyway, they don't use the ATAPI interface which ePSXe requires.
