Sofware video plugin problems (resolutions)

I tried ePSXe on my laptop (300Mhz - 192Mb - win98 - crappy 2MB 2D video). But I got a problem with both P.E.O.s.P. Soft Driver and Kazzuya Software driver.

I cannot use any full screen res lower then 640x480 (only 640x480 and 800x600 are working) and I can't either use windowed modes (any res).

I tested with other games running in software and all of them are working good (from 320x240 to 1024x768) , working fine too with NES/SNES/Genesis/N64 emus. I got the latest possible drivers for the video card.

I want smth to fix that because in 640x480, it's slowing down the game and it's not really playable, 320x240 or 400x300 would be great.

I tried every other plugins, it only works with 1 , the one where you can select 16/24/32bits, 320x240 24 bits, otherwire, no go. but not working quite (frame skipping not working) so I get between 30 and 40 fps and in the games I'm playing, I need to get the full speed (even if there is frame skipping).

What happens is simply that ePSXe crashes, without any message (when using full screen) or it gives me the win98 error message (close the prog) when in windowed mode.

It's seems that you select a color depth/resolution not suported by your Videocard. You can try to configure the video pluggin without any hardware effect mode selected. And try to update all that you can (drivers, DirectX...)
If nothing works, try VGSconectix http://www.ngemu.com/psx/vgswin.php
it's a better option for your system (your laptop is a little old to run propperly ePSXe )

well, other games/emus can run at any resolutions in DDraw! 320x200/320x240/400x300/512x384 in 16bits or 24bits. I really wonder why ePSXe doesn't want at all.

EDIT: the VGS win site isn't working, and the downloads aren't the full versions.
