ePSXe Stalling

In every game I've tried so far, ePSXe stalls at certain points, most often when I enter or exit a menu. (Also happens at the beginning of battles for Tactics Ogre and FFT)

The game freezes at a black screen, but frame rates stay the same. I managed to bypass this by turning off FPS limit. After a couple seconds at 300 f/s, it goes on. I have no idea what this is, so please help.

Current Video Plugin:
Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.4
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
GFX card: RADEON 9700 PRO x86/SSE2

Resolution/Color:
- 640x480 Window mode
- Internal X resolution: 1
- Internal Y resolution: 1
- Keep psx aspect ratio: off

- Filtering: 0
- Hi-Res textures: 1
- TexWin pixel shader: on
- VRam size: 0 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: on
- FPS limit: Auto

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 2
- Framebuffer effects: 3
- Framebuffer uploads: 1

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Mdec filter: on
- Screen filtering: on
- Shader effects: 0/1
- GF4/XP crash fix: off
- Game fixes: off [00000000]

Also an unrelated problem, when I test sound and cd plugins, there is never a response. The sound usually cuts out after I load a savestate. This doesn't really matter, since I usually play with no sound and run isos, but I'm still wondering. I'm using the ePSXe base for those.

The sound problems are due to the fact that if you have sound off when you load a save state, it stays off.
Your stalling issues may be caused by savestates too. They can cause numerous issues

It's not the savestates, since the stalling problem remains without using them.

It really gets annoying when you have to remove the FPS limit every 5 minutes and put it back on.

Well that's probably loading time then... have you tried running from an ISO, and if you are already, have you tried defragging?

Hm...

It works if I put only a few units on the map, but if I want to deploy all of them, there still is a stall period.

Guess I'll just have to stick with the frame unlimiter.
