MDEC Problems

Hey,

I have a Sony CDRW CRX215E5, and for some reason it can read the games pretty well, but it can't read MDECS without slowing down or getting extremely choppy. I can't figure out why especially since its a Sony. The only plugin that even comes close to working is PEOPS CDR 1.4 with IOTCL SCSI commands with Thread read but its still choppy and slow. I have installed the Adaptec ASPI drivers and I have Windows XP. I have also tried the bare minimum settings for graphics and no luck there. I have 64mb of video ram anyways. Hope this info helps.

Since its a sony..... The best drives are LG or lite-on btw.
Sometimes your prblem happens to everyone, just try an iso and you will notice the difference.

that reminds me, how did the autoconfiguring plugins work? (Sapu's and Xeven's, IIRC)

Xeven and Sapu's plugins auto config didn't solve the problem, and the scratches on the CD's aren't major and they work on my friend's CD drive. Is there any special settings or driver or somethign I need to get?

Is there a reason you haven't made an image of the disc? It's not uncommon for CD drives to have trouble reading PSX discs. Try making an image with CloneCD, Alcohol, CDRWin, or ISOBuster(or anything else you know how to use really) and running that instead. It should solve all of your problems. Not to mention it cuts down on load times since the CD drive won't have to spin up everytime.

Also, have you tried setting PEOpS driver to Smooth Read mode? It seems to allow games to run acceptably on some of the drives I've seen that don't normally work.

Firmware is the software built into your drive. It controls eg// the movement of the laser and whatnot. You could describe it as the drives own "bios" if you will. It can be flashed in the same way as your motherboard can be in order to fix problems discovered after the drive was shipped.

Seph, "Smooth" is meant to be used in aspi read mode, he is using the icotl interface, "Thread" si the smooth mode in ioctl. Gamerr, do as suggested and make an iso, it will be easier and efficient enough.

Perhaps, but he noted that he had ASPI installed and I've never had success with Thread read on my crappy drive so I noted what did work for me.

And yeah, go ahead and make an ISO. It's not really efficient to run directly from a CD anyway(matter of opinion).

Then you should have told him to swap to aspi interface . I really don't like to have things installed unless i really have to, that's why i don't have aspi, nor i care about it, but it's another possibility.
