Is ePSXe supposed to work this crappy???

No offense to the makers!!!, im sure it would b extremely hard. But it runs nothing close to the Playstation (atleast not on my comp) im playing FFVII and theres red outlines on everything and everytime before i go into a battle, it takes a few seconds, first my cd drive has got to start up, then find the data, its annoying, anyone else have this??

Keep in mind that 90% of the claimed "imperfections" in ePSXe are user errors and not actual program errors. The thing is that you need to be willing to tweak your settings to get optimal performance for each game. Square games are a huge topic of dicussion here in the forums, and people are always asking questions about how to improve their gameplay.

Before anyone can help you, you're going to need to post the following:

- ePSXe version
- Plugin Information (in particular your GFX plugin)
- System info(Videocard, processor, O/S, whatever you feel should be noted)

If I had to wager a guess I'd say the red outlines are due to Texture Filtering being set too high(set it to 4 or lower) or high-res textures being set to 2xSal(either set it to stretched or turn it off completely).

To solve the CD seeking problems, you can try using something like Sapu's CD-ROM driver or you can make an image of the CD and avoid using the CD at all(much faster).

Also, you can checkout Lord Kane's guide to setting this game up using Pete's OGL 1.75. It's an excellent starting point for configuring the game for your PC. See: http://www.lordkane.co.uk/epsxeconfigs.php

Yeah, pretty close anyway. Pete's OpenGL2, Eternal SPU, and disc ripped to ISO works like a charm on my machine. The only problem is that my DVD-ROM drive has problems reading playstation discs on the fly, so the only way I can play from my CDs at all is to use PEOpS CDR driver set to smooth read. Even then it's questionable whether or not it will work to par. Easy to solve by ripping my games to ISOs when I want to play them on ePSXe(although I usually play them on my PSOne anyway since it's nice to play them on my TV).

Start/Run

Type DXDIAG and then click "OK".

Under the "System" tab it shows your CPU/OS/RAM info.

Clicking the "Display" Tab brings up more detailed info about your Graphics card.

Clicking Sound will bring up info about your SPU

etc...

You can also use the windows hardware manager or an external program.

If you want to copy/paste your GPU plugin for ePSXe note the little button in the corner of Pete's plugins which says "Copy settings to clipboard". This will save all of the necessary settings so all you have to do is paste it.

Suggested solutions:

- Problem 1: It's an issue with "Texture Filtering", some of the settings cause those outlines on FF7. A simple fix is to set to "Texture Filtering" to "0 - None".
- Problem 2: Create a ISO image of the game and run from it, should solve all problems with loading times. There's plenty of threads with information on how to create a ISO image from your CD, use the search function of the forum if you need.

My personal opinion is that epsxe runs games even better than real psx. When we take in account filtering options, savestate utility and high resolutions it makes it much better. Also there is no lens problem or disk errors. Infact I noticed slowdowns in real psx while playing harry potter 1 and 2 while these games run much faster on epsxe. All you need is a decent pc and thats it.

Here are my suggestions to your problem program your own damn psx emulator if you think this one is crappy, Galtor, _Demo_ none of these guys own you a damn thing, if you think it's easy maybe you should ask zenogais he is working on one he'll tell you quick how tough they are to emulate so again my suggestion stop using it and make your own goddamn emulator.

btw, I apologize for flaming you but you deserve it, have you ever thought it was your own stupidity on why it's not working properly?

Also, one last thing make an ISO of your games...

I have to agree with the last poster, I won't flame you but I will put in this picture. I feel the topic is too strong, ePSXe is not a 'crappy' emulator - you frankly just do not understand how it works, or even your own computer.

I'm sorry for going off too mods, but I got upset at this newbie. Im a newbie myself but even I as stupid as I can be did not post like, this.

Man, it just pisses me off when someone downs someone else work, and i'm a prime example of it a few years back before I got into programming emulators I either downed ADRIpsx (think thats how it's spelled) or PCSX after a reeming, and finally deciding to try programming, out working on misc project, I realize how wrong I really was on that whole subject and I apologize for my indescrepencies.

What i'm getting at minion is it's damn hard to make any type of emulator, and as someone else posted it's probably a mistake on how you have your plugins setup.

Maybe you should try different config first before claiming something to be crappy. Can't get ePSXe to run smoothly on your super juicy computer just shows how dumb you are. I got it to run well on my old 800mHz P3 with gf3 64mb.
At least TRY to solve the problem on your own first.

Heck, I got my P1 233 to run FF7 at up to 41 FPS with E}I{'s soft plugin and no sound . With practice you can get ePSXe running optimally on any computer .

red_minion: As others have said, post your plugin settings (video, sound, CD). With Pete's GPU plugins, click on the "Copy settings to clipboard" button in the lower right corner then paste it into a new post.

It was completely playable. Even running it with P.E.Op.S's soft plugin was playable and that ran at about 20-21 FPS. I couldn't get E}I{'s plugin to show the swirl but P.E.Op.S. did and without any speed loss . I've yet to try VGS but I have the demo on that computer.
