PSXMemTool Indentifier Numbers

After a desperate search for something that had the ability to revoke the disaster that was that I had managed to forget to back up all my self-achieved Final Fantasy (7&8) saves before a reformat, I managed to get the US FF7 Dex Drive saves converted to PAL, as I'm European, and I am saved in that regard, even though there were issues with the product numbers for a while.

But then, I'm having some trouble making the US FF8 saves to work. After a lot of tiresome mucking about, it seems to me like the problem has to do with the Identifier number, and that it is actually the two periods, "..", after "052000" that for some reason insist on appearing after I write "052000" (or "052001", "052002", etc.) which is the problem. I opened up a downloaded save that is already made for PAL region (but they are rare, as far as I can see, and I'm not interested in the "very end of the game"-saves that actually do exist for PAL), which loads fine by the way, and there it has "052000" as its Identifier number, with no two dots after it. The message I receive when I go into FF8 and try to check the memory card housing the two-dotted Identifier save is not that there is no data, but that it was "unable to read" or something to that effect. I just need to find out if my suspiscions are even valid, and I want to prevent "052000..". The only difference I can see between the working one and the non-working one is the two dots in the non-working one..

Re: PSXMemTool Indentifier Numbers

Ok, there is a bug with version 1.17b of PSXMemTool which might prevent you from setting the Identifiers correctly. You are welcome to try 1.18b (http://psxmemtool.ngemu.com/files/PS....18b_Setup.exe), see how you get on with that.

Edit: I just tested what you wrote, the problem happens when you hit save on the properties window???? when it goes back to the main window the identifier has some '...' after the number, this is fixed in 1.18b.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can try http://psxmemtool.ngemu.com/files/PSXMemTool_1.18b_Setup_Including_Crono_0.5b_And_Ba o_0.1b.zip
which has an option where if you right click the FF7 or FF8 save you can convert it automatically between regions; it will set the correct region, product code and identifiers. (Also it contains a Chrono Trigger save editor and Final Fantasy 1 data viewer)

Let me know how you get on.

Thumbs up Re: PSXMemTool Indentifier Numbers

Okay, first off, every time I run the normal 1.18b, an error occurs in the second the GUI appears. Sybase Inc. Product File: Sybase Inc. Product File has enountered a problem and needs to close.

Now for the good part. The 1.18b including Crono 0.5b and Bao 0.1b runs perfectly, and I managed to manually type in the indentifier number without any difficulty (no dots, not in regular "Edit Data", nor in "Convert Region to" ), and the save now works. Thumbs up to you for having relieved me of all worries.

And, maybe you'd want to note that, in the Convert Region To-section, the information in the Region Codes.txt file does not appear, not on this end anyways. It's a blank space.

But thanks a million.

Sorry I'm late. Region Codes.txt is where it's supposed to be but I can't find any .log file.

Re: PSXMemTool Indentifier Numbers

Okay, when you extracted the .zip file, did you extract it to your normal PSXMemTool folder (where you installed 1.18b)?

Re: PSXMemTool Indentifier Numbers

I put it in its own folder. And I can see now that the other folder does have a log file, but none was included with the special one I downloaded. So, my activity hasn't been logged. I guess you would want me to "do" some more things now, to get something into the log?

Re: PSXMemTool Indentifier Numbers

Okay, if you extracted the zip to it's own folder, it will use the directory where you installed from the installer as it's working directory. So the reason it cannot find the Region Codes.txt file is because it cannot find it in the working folder. Also your log file will also be stored in the same folder. What I suggest you do is extract the .zip file to your normal installation folder (you can rename your old PSXMemTool.exe file to PSXMemTool.old if you want to keep a backup of that). If you do this then PSXMemTool should work properly from now on and you should be able to use the Convert To Region option when you right click on saved games.

Hi, I'm new to the PSX Mem Tool Program and I have a Digimon world 3 PAL-Multi save, I just converted it to NTSC-U using the product code but I didn't put the Identifier because I don not know where to find it. Will it still work even though I don't have the identifier? or do I need it? If so, how do I find/generate an Identifier number?
I'm using the latest version of PSXMem Tool 1.19b
Thanks in advance.

EDIT* NVM, I found the Identifier code but I still have that exclamation point and if i try to load the game it doesn't work. it says "Failed Access"
EDIT* The Exclamation point is gone but I still can't load the game.
