Angry epsxe slow despite high(ish) spec machine

Help! I can't get epsxe to work acceptable fast at all!

My system specs are:

Athlon XP 2000 CPU
VIA KM266 Mobo
256Mb DDR Ram
Radeon 9000 Video
Win XP Pro
DirectX 9

I've tried a few plugins and config optiosn but I'm getting nowhere. I'd expect this spec machine to run too fast, not too slow!!!

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Munkey of Fortune

Exact GPU settings - give me about 6-8fps. Curiously, on some screens (e.g. car selection in gran turisomo), I get about 200 fps.

Curious. Try messing around with the off-screen drawing. And if that doesn't work, tell us how the PEOPS software driver runs.

Also, try a good 640x480. I've never used such a low resolution such as yours.

Post your PEOPs settings... It really should run fast.

sorry, overlapped posts. I tried D3D already, not PEOPs.

Just tried PEOPs in 'Fast' settings, and it's worse!

FWIW, native windows games run really well, e.g. GTA3.

I am running the new ATI Catalyst 3 drivers, and direct X 9. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I also disabled sound, but it doesn't speed anything up, and resolution seems to make no odds.

Worse as in slow or worse as in picture quality? Are your drivers installed?

slower. I do have drivers intalled (ATI Catalyst 3, see above).

Native D3D games kick a*s on the system. Dunno why epsxe is slow. Gotta be something quirky though.

Random thoughts - gamepad?

All I've got to try are Tomb Raider 2, and Gran Turismo. I borrowed them to see if I could get theis working, and if so I was going to go and buy all the old games I love.

I might try and get hold of some more.

I really am off this time, but please throw ideas at me!

Night night.

Tried using Petes Direct Sound, built-in sound and no sound.

I'm not using any other plugins. BIOS is (from memory) 7502? The PAL one anyway.

here's a tried and true answer.

"try making an iso of the game"

my games have huge slow downs during movies because my dvd rom drive can't get data that fast. o well. gotta love isos.

I've already tried 16 bpp, and it doesn't really make any (significant) odds. Although I put up the settings above, I really have tried a lot of different settings, but none have made enough of a difference to be able to play.

Have you tried turning off the sound? Try disabling it; sound really slows down emulation. Also, what CD plugins are you using? Sound plugins? What are the settings?
