ePSXe doesn't work, games won't start

I use version 1.4.0

I used the Wizard guide to configure the emulator and everything seems to work. But when I use the "Run CD-ROM" command all I get is a black picture.

When I exit epsxe, I get the message
Error reading CD: 0X0004 0,2,16
Error reading CD: 0X0004 0,2,0
in the DOS wimdow.

I have a Duron 700 processor,
Guillemot maxi gamer 3D Voodoo2
Elsa Victory Erazor
Plextor SCSI CD-ROM
TEAC SCSI CD-burner
Soundblaster 128

Plugins:
video: Lewpy's 3dfx/Glide³ GPU 1.33
Sound: ePSXe SPU core 1.4.0.
CD-ROM: ePSXe CDR ASPI core 1.4.0.
Bios: Scph1001.bin

hi , when i installed the new epsxe and configured with the wizardguide, i got a error like you when i try to start a game...
what games have you tested??
My pc:
pII 450 , geforce 256, sb live, 384 mb ram
config:
Sound: ePSXe SPU core 1.4.0.
CD-ROM: ePSXe CDR ASPI core 1.4.0.
Bios: Scph1001.bin
Video: peteopengl.dll or peted3d.dll

Have you properly configured this plugin? You have to select the correct CD-Rom in the plugin configuration AND the letter of the CD-Rom in ePSXe.

Oh yes, I've tried several other games and none did work.

I've never had any problems with bleem or VGS though, probably because you don't have to configure anything.

But I don't think that there's anything wrong with my computer as I have no problems running VGS and Bleem

There's an easy way to check if your computer is the problem. Try making an ISO of one of the games, and run it directly from ePSXe. If it works, there's something wrong with your CD configuration.

If you need help making an ISO, I suggest you search the boards, there are plenty of threads here on this issue.

I still have to find out how to make isos. CDRwin is rather complicated

Try the Blindread/BlindWrite Suite . It's very easy to use, and works great!

Can you give us a few more details, like what games have you tried, which plugins are you using, etc? This way we can try to help.

I tried with an iso file, and ePSXE worked fine. You were right, there has to be a problem with my CD-Rom

It's likely a problem with the CD-Rom configuration. Now, here's a couple things you may want to try:

1) If you are using Windows NT/2000/XP, try the Internal WNT/W2K plugin. Just make sure you set the correct letter for you drive.

2) If that fails, or you're using W95/W98/WMe, try the Internal ASPI and Pete's ASPI plugin. For both of these, besides setting the correct letter, you need to click on "configure", and select the apropriate drive. For Pete's Plugin, after setting the drive place a PSX CD-Rom in the drive and press "try autodetection", so it can choose the apropriate read mode for you drive.

3) Make sure both "Enable Accurate CD-Rom Timing" and "Disable CD-Rom Status" are NOT checked, since they are unnecessary for most games.

If this doesn't work, post a message here and we'll try to think of something else.
