Cannot Get Controller To Work

ePSXe works great - music and sound is almost perfect. Movies play and everything looks wonderful....except I CANNOT get my controller to work in ANY game. I have a Logitech Wingman Rumblepad, and I know it works because it works with PC games. When I go to the window to configure the controller, I set it for "Analogue/Digital" (I've tried "Digital" as well) and when I click in a field to set the button or movement, it always shows the same thing "Jset_right" or some such thing in every field. When I press the button or direction, it *briefly* shows that action, and then when I release it, it goes back to the old value. I've tried both Pad 1 and Pad 2, but Pad 2 is Digital only in the pull-down.

In games, the camera just pans around, or the character runs or jumps consistently. No in-game menus will work. The only thing that seems to do anything is the *accelerator slider* of all things. It seems to cause menu items to move up and down - but nothing can be selected.

I'd really like to play some of these games - anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Make sure EVERYTHING is set up correctly in Windows Control Panel. And if there is a keyboard mapper that comes with it, check and see if you can use the gamepad without the mapper active.
I've had lots of problems with mappers when I try to use more than one button at a time (Old flightstick. Both buttons was thought to be Hat-Left. Just assigned Hat-Left to +jump and +fire (Quake 1).

Hmmm. No, I don't use the mapper - I only use what comes within the PC Game to set up the gamepad. In Windows. the pad is functioning perfectly, with all settings calibrated.

I have the same pad, and i can't get it to work either. When i got to config it recoginses only the axes, not the buttons. I got AdriPSX and the N-RAGE controller plug-in and had success. Only difference, no vibration support in AdriPSX? And compatibility i suppose.

Well I have the same pad also. It's a little tricky to get this puppy working in epsxe, but its easy one you know how.

1. Make sure you use logitechs drivers, not the crap ones that come with windows

2. Make sure you increase the rumble setting in control panel to 150%

3. Set the pad to analogue/digital, rumble to directX, big motor to constant, small motor to sine.

4. If you are getting wierd inputs whilst configuring buttons make sure that the slider on the top right of the pad is EXACTLY in the middle.

Hopefully that should get everything working correctly

Hey, thanks Betamax - the slider suggestion did the trick!! Now all the pad settings stay selected, and everything works well!

Lightbulb Solution

I have a solution to getting the Wingman Rumblepad to function properly under ePSXe. I had a problem with ePSXe not recognizing my buttons, and i fixed it like this:

1. Open ePSXe.

2. Open the gamepad config and set it to Digital/Analog

3. Vibration set to Direct X, big motor Constant, little sine (thanks beta)

4. SET THE PAD TO DEFAULT, CAUSING KEYBOARD COMMANDS TO BE SET TO BUTTONS

5. Try to configure D-Pad and the 2 joysticks with the ePSXe config.

6. Load wingman Profiler software and apply the file I ATTACHED by creating a new profile for ePSXe.

7. Load ePSXe and you are set!

IF you cannot config the D-Pad with ePSXe:

1. Make sure the D-Pad is configured with keyboard buttons.

2. Load the Profiler software, and edit the POV under the ePSXe profile.

3. Go to "new command".

4. Record the press and release of the one of the keys cooresponding with the D-pad.

5. Assign this command to the cooresponding POV direction, e.g. the command where you record the key for left you assign to west of the POV.

6. Repeat for the other three D-Pad sides.

IF you cannot config the joysticks with ePSXe:

You need an axis, so I'm not sure how to workaround this without using a game device. If you have an axis to configure it with, you can record the movement and map it onto the Profiler.

I tried it with Coolboarders 3 and the feedback worked very well. Didn't try any other games w/ feedback yet.

edit: THPS 2 works as well. Sound is another story....

Yes a sidewider should work correctly (in fact that's my second pad ). That pad should be set to digital, without any rumble settings.
