Legend of Mana Problem with Stat-Changing equipment

I believe I am having a strange problem with this game. I believe when I first started playing the game, whenever I wore a piece of equipment that modified my base stats, it would show the change in-game. Now, however, it never shows a change to the base stats. The best example is the Destiny Dice. I wear the dice, and my Magic Defense goes up the correct amount, but Luck does not show an increased number, and the other stats that are affected do not seem to change either. Am I imagining things? I can't pull out the original PSX because it's in storage, but I tried both the original CD AND the ISO, but nothing seems to make a difference... Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Btw i've got this question from someone who emailed me and want me to post it, he said that he's forgot his password to logon to emuforums and cant use the password retrieval form and so on

I think its a problem with the game and not epsxe. im also too lazy to fire up my psx to try it.
