Games not booting at all (Win2K)

It seems that when I use ePSXe in Windows 2000, not matter which version I use, no matter which plugin I use, regardless of whether I use CD-ROMs or ISOs, the games are simply not booting. Now, if I load a v1.2.0+ save state, I can continue playing, but I can't start anew.

I've tried every graphics, sound, and CD-ROM plugin under the sun. It still won't boot. I DO have a good set of ASPI drivers.

AND the problem still exists in the new v1.4.0.

Can anyone help me figure out this frustrating problem?

I already tried it. No more success than with the other plugins. Rerfuses to boot either CD-ROM or ISO. Oh, just to make sure, I also tried multiple BIOS images. No luck. I tried a 7001 BIOS I tried on another machine. It worked. I'm at my wit's end.

Does anything happen when you select Run BIOS?

Also try Running in Window mode (Pete's Plugins) so you can see the Command Line box! See if that shows any errors!

I use ePSXe 1.2.0 ( I am gonna download 1.4.0 tonight

) and Win2K too but I never had this kind of problem. I use the internal ePSXe CD-R driver and I think is the best solution under Win2K. I have to say that my computer has SCSI and the CDROM is SCSI too.
What errors can you see in the ePSXe DOS window ? can you cut&paste those errors here ?
Better use BIOS 1001 since is the one prefered by ePSXe

I have absolutely no porblem with epsxe 1.2.0 in Windows 2000, however, 1.4.0 is doing exactly what you're describing. And it's not giving any error messages in the DOS box. It works FINE if you load a save state (????), but it doesn't work if you just boot a CD or ISO (!) and the BIOS hangs after the music and white screen with the PS logo (!!!). This BIOS has always worked before, so it's not the BIOS. And it's not the plugins because they worked just FINE with 1.2.0. So WHAT IS IT?!??!?? This isn't intended as much to be a flame as a cry of anguish.

Those are the exact same symptoms I experience. And the BIOS logo just freezes in place. It doesn't even let me go to the MemCard manager.

Worse for me, it does it with 1.2.0, too.

BTW, since I use Pete's OpenGL, I can easily switch back. Here's what it tells me in the console window:

* Running ePSXe emulator version 1.4.0.
* Memory handlers init.
* ePSXe: PSX BIOS loaded [C:\Program Files\EPSXE\bios\SCPH7001.BIN].
* Init Core W2k cdrom ... * First/Last track: 1 1
* Track 1: (DATA) - Start 0: (00,02,00) - Length 77:23 [G] ok
* Doing init gpu...
* Gpu open...
* Direct input init ok.
* Doing spu init...
* Spu open...

So to ePSXE, it appears everything's fine. What's going on here?

Have you tried Pete's ASPI Plugin? you might need to use ForceASPI for it to detect your drive!

Have you got Accurate CDR Timing on? if so take it off, if not put it on! same with Disable CDRom status!

What about if you dump the CD to an ISO? and use the Run ISO command?

In case you didn't read the first message I posted, it happens REGARDLESS of the plugin I use. I DO have current ASPIs because I have EasyCD Creator, and I DID use ForceASPI for good measure.

It also happens whether I use a CD or an ISO (I can make an ISO out of my own CDs using BlindRead). Doesn't matter. I can't even Run BIOS. It doesn't go to the MemCard manager.

This is where it comes down to it! If you can't get to run the bios the theres obviously something completely wrong!

You say you've tried multiple bios images, OK so its not that! What next?

Try Disabling Sound in the options, to remove that possibility!

Also whats the spec of your machine?
It helps to know what hardware we are dealing with!

If you can't run the bios then messing with the cdr plugins/isos will do nout.

Id try switching off the sound (ie select null plugin as in null NOT null2) then use a software gpu. If it STILL screws up my guess would be that the bios is corrupt.

If it works change the graphics plugin back to see if that causes glitch and then once that is working change the spu. Once the bios is working then check the cdr plugin.

I've already tried multiple SPUs including the internal core. I've also tried and even disabled all sound options.

BTW, I can use the same BIOSes and ISOs on another machine without any problems. It's a situation either with Win2000 or my machine specifically.

As for my specs...

CPU: Athlon 900
RAM: 256MB
OS: Windows 2000, SP2 installed.
Video: GeForce2 MX
Sound: Sound Blaster Live!
CD-ROMS: Creative PC-DVD 2x and Lite-On CD-RW 32x12x10

Are you running the Default WDM Win2k Drivers for your SBLive? or have you got the updated ones from Creative?

What GeForce Detonator drivers are you running?

I didn't have the problem in epsxe 1.2 but in epsxe 1.4. I have found it is fine providing I stick to the settings below

Scph1001/7502 - Either will work
Petes Soft Driver - I have a Nvidia card if I select anything else it crashes.
epsxe spu core - iori's just sits on my screen and hangs the system
epsxe wnt/w2k - I haven't tried the others
Digital/Analogue controller - I wish there were pad plugins !

I find this works ok, if I change any of these then I find it will run the screen goes black (full screen) and then it exits back to my desktop

I don't think it is the plugins because I run Fpse and Adripsx and neither of these two behave in this manner. Regarding the video drivers I am using the originals that are installed with win2k.

I ran aspichk and it says my aspi drivers are installed correctly so I must have run forceapsi at some point.

my setup is

1 Ghz Athlon
128 Mb ram
Nvidia Vanta 16mb card
Pioneer DVD-105F slot
Plextor CD/RW - PX-w1210A
Creative labs soundblaster 1024

What I find mainly happens is the games will run but I have no keyboard/joypad control. None of the controls work.

When this happens I remove everything from the registry, searching for "pete" and "epsxe" and start again with the original configuration above.

Here is something strange that happened to myself once...

After using ePSxe 1.0.1 (for playing Final Fantasy 7) and ePSXe 1.2.0 (for all my other Playstation games), i noticed that neither would boot the cd's etc after i had been switching between them after a weeks or so usage etc.

After a lot of hair pulling, i went into regedit and removed all traces of ePSXe and its various plugins.

I then restarted ePSXe 1.0.1, it worked flawlessly once more and i decided not use two versions side by side (note, i never ran them in instances at the same time) and i have stuck to using ePSxe 1.0.1 right up until version 1.4.0 appeared and now i no longer use version 1.0.1 and only use 1.4.0.

My point is that some minor setting somewhere is probably screwing up ePSXe from working for you, wipe the registry clean of all things ePSXe and its plugins related, then download ePSXe 1.4.0, the plugins that you like to use with it and then go play your Playstation games.

You'll lose your plugin settings, but its not a hard task to set them back to your personal preferences.
