For some games savestates can work even better than demos.

e.g. Ridge Racer--- you can play the whole game.(as with other old games).
Gt2 and other racing games--- you can have hours of game play (one full race).
Most level based games--- you can play one full level.
Most sports game--- you can play one full match.

I think thats much more than what we can expect considering that size of these savestates is only around 1.4 mb

*edit* This portion of the thread has been moved from a previous thread so dont ask questions.

Thats what the actual purpose of savestatecentral was.

Only thing keeping us back is the space restrictions coz anything like that would surely mean gigs of uploads.Anyway with a little bit of support I may restart the project.(Mad stopped his work on the site).

Anyway, you can check this site for few savestates.

http://www.savestatecentral.hpg.ig.com.br/index.htm

Out of these, good demo values should be in.....

Akuji,dukenukem,small soldiers,tombraider3 and winning eleven 3.

To play those savestates under epsxe.........

Insert any psx cd into your cd drive . Check the number/code of the psx disk( it should be something like sles_xxx.xx ). Now paste the savestate you want to run into epsxe savestates folder.Rename the savestate to the number on the psx disk you noted before and include the slot number as well.

e.g. If your psx disk number is sles_012.56 then rename the savestate as sles_012.56.000 for running it in slot 1 , sles_012.56.001 for slot 2 and so on.

Run the psx disk, now when you will select load state option it will load savestate from different game then what you have in your cd drive.

I hope that made some sense.

Now it may look that this discussion is going offtopic but we are still discussing psx demos in the form of savestates so I guess its no problem.

:joice: Thanks for all th info prafull! And sxamiga, thanks for the enlightment, now I can see the point.

I have tons of savestates that I'd love to share so, if the savestate project that prafull had mentioned resume I'd love to contribute with my states.
Wow! I'm really excited about the idea! Now I can try all those psx games I wanted to buy before actually buying them.

Tip: Using getright to dl the states from the url above will result on corrupted files.

hmm, I never knew about these savestates stuff.
Good way to try a game without buying. I am not 100% sure about the legality of it tho... In a way, a small part of a commercial game is read from the CD into the emu, and then the emu saves it into a file, which is then distributed...
Anyway, if this is generally accepted as a way of life, then why do we have to hack the savestates in order to play? Can somebody convince the ePSXe team to have a direct support for that? Or some 3rd party util to ease the pain in the butt?
Meanwhile, the next time I see a nice pic in the screenshots forum, I might just ask for a savestate

Hello guys, it's me again! I've just created an account @ hpg (it's said to have unlimited space storage...) and I'll start to build a SaveState resource Shortly I'll put an e-mail here so you can get in touch with me if you wish to contribute with savestates (or any other help).

Best regards,
Omegainf

this matter was discussed prior to the openeing of savestate central. since savestates were sent around, much like memcards, for debugging and other such purposes, we came to the conclusion that this "demo" thing was an added perk. if you wish to use it for such a purpose then that was your choice.
as for "hacking" it, all you are really doing is just getting epsxe to load that partiicular savestate with your cd. i dont think it would make too much sense to have epsxe have the option of loading a savestate without the corresponding cd, since most people would just find that confusing..
