'Boom!' PSX+N64->USB box + Topway Dance mat + ePSXe = Anger!

Does anyone else have this setup, and have it working properly? It's driving me nuts, I tells ya!

Problem: ePSXe uses Directinput for Joypad emulation, which means I can't configure a Joypad->Keyboard program (like JoyToKey) to sort out any key binds - Not normally a problem, but as you know with DDR, there are times when you need to stand on both Left+Right or Up+Down, and as the Joypad driver will only assign the up/down and left/right arrows to the X and Y axes, it ends up impossible (ie; you can't push left and right on a joystick at the same time)

Is there a way around this? I can't use JoyToKey or RBJoy, and I can't see any other way to config the pad in ePSXe to get around the problem.

Help, so I can get my groove on

(more info on what I have: Boom Connector box | Dance Mat )

ok, I don't have a DDR pad, but I understand what you are saying about the direct input problem, however, you should be able to resolve the with koytokey (I've gotten it to work with 2 different direct input devices...so it should work), here is how:

1) set epsxe to its default gamepad settings. - The default settings are keyboard key presses.

2) map the dance pads' directional buttons to the keyboard's numerical pad directional buttons---watch out, it takes a while to properly map keys to a game pad, it takes some trial and error to get it working right. Afterwards, save your setting's but keep joytokey running as a background process (buy simply minimizing the screen)

3) now go back into epsxe and configure the gamepads directional buttons by pressing corresponding direction buttons on your dance pad...it should map to a key press instead of a direct input press. (this way you'll know it worked)

4) play your game

also since you mapping to keys you'll need to be carefull of ghosting (this happens when 3 or more keys are pressed at the same time, an extra key press will occur), however you shouldn't encounter such problems since you only require 2 keys to be pressed at any time, which is not an unusuall occurance on a keyboard hehe

hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, Liquid... Doesn't work, though. The JoyToKey readme notes it doesn't work with a DirectInput application, and even configged like you suggested and running minimised, the ePSXe controller screen still picks up presses on the mat as J1_UP ect etc...

However, I've just tried CVGS with JoyToKey - CVGS is *not* DInput - The controller config on this *does* pick up the Pad presses as the kepresses passed by JTK - But, in the game, it still won't accept L+R or U+D... Brings me to assume the Boom! driver won't accept signals from two buttons on the same Axis no matter what, or I have a broken mat. I'll try plugging a PSX Joypad into the adaptor when I can get ahold of one - If that doesn't like double axis presses either, I'll know the Lik-Sang site is Bull, and the adaptor *doesn't* support this feature I need.

Any other ideas I've missed would be most welcome, though

hmm...this is complicated, try this....
open up notepad, and write a few lines or random gibberish (till it goes down a few lines)
now run joytokey, and try to press the directions on the your dance pad, it should cause the cursor to traverse the text in notepad. (this is to confirm that joytokey is working)

now reconfigure epsxe's gamepad, but instead of pressing the dance-pad to initiate the key press, use the actual keys on your keyboard that were mapped to your dance pad to configure the directional presses (note, if you mapped the dance pad's directions to your keyboards directional buttons, they are on NUM pad's (4,8,6,2) keys...not your arrow keys).
Then run your game.
I can't guarentee this will work...if it does great, but if it doesn't you need to contact lik-sang about the pad's drivers.

Bah, I'm having the exact same problem. So you aren't the only one. I've tried joy2key and other joystick to keyboard mapping programs and none of them help the problem. I still can't press up + down or left + right.
