Castlevania Chronicles save state problem

When I try to restore a save state in Castlevania Chronicles it locks the game up after a couple of seconds. Is this a known issue? If not anyone know how to fix it?

I've tried this with ePSXe 1.5.1 & 1.5.2 with the same problems.
