ePSXe 1.5.2 problems.

ePSXe Plugin windows slow in appearing
No matter which plugin set I'm trying to configure (GPU, SPU, CD) there is about a 10 second lag between clicking on the plugin set from the menu (eg. going to Config ->Video) and the appearance of the window that lets you select and config the actual plugins. Any ideas?

Wild Arms 2 opening FMV
I've recently tried replaying WA2 on ePSXe 1.5.2. When I fire it up and start a new game the opening FMV sequence cuases a drop in fps of about ~20 FPS and the sound output is also skewered, varying in pitch something like a song recorded on a bad/old tape

EDIT: I've tried Pete's D3D and P.E.Ops SOFT gpu with similar results

As for the delay in EPSXE i have no idea what it could be but the drop in framerate for the FMV would not be a surprise seeing depending on your system speeds will vary for different games and also for different scenes. If the music sounds wierd and runs too slow the theres nothing your could really do, probably try a different sound plugin maybe Pete's Direct sound.

I dont see why you are caring about the intro FMV anyway. It has no baring on how you play the game. As long as you can play the game dont worry about it. I dont see it as that much of a problem. I play GT2 with no music only sound because the music runs too fast for the speed i like to play the game at. It also causes the FMV at the start to run insanely quick. It doesnt worry me because it allows me to skip past it quick and get into the game which plays extremely good.

I know that (talking about the FMV) But I *like* it... I want to watch it.... and I know my specs aren't the prob... I've played this game for ages on the same comp (settings in sig) using both earlier versions of pete's plugins and Lewpy's too when I had a V3 3k and got flawless results with it all the time

I think you should contact with pete for the best answer.Ask it if it was a bug of epsxe1.52 or other plugins. But I think your computer are a little bad for exelent game.So that let play VGS at least.^_^

A) I figure that Pete will stumble over this evenrually

B) I tried ePSXe 1.5.0 and it's still slow

C) Dude, my specs are fine... I get perfect performance in all my games (emulated and otherwise) and WA2 is the only game that exhibits these slowdowns. What makes you think my puter is only good enough for VGS? *utterly shocked*

(I know my CPU is a bit slow, but everything I do with it runs at more-than-acceptable speed EXCEPT for this ONE sequence... I'm sorry if I sound annoyed but recently I've been hearing this sorta stuff all over various emu boards and it's bugging me, thats all ^^;;;

He's right, his specs aren't the problem. I can run all games at full framerate nearly all the time if I tweak around, and take a look at my specs. There's no reason why he can't as well.

And regarding the FPS drop, I know that in some games there are drops for no particular reason, like say right at the beginning of FFVII when it says 'Published by Square USA' the FPS drops to around 15FPS for no reason - same deal with FFT on the world map, it sits at 40FPS for no discernable reason. Try using a software plugin and see if that plays it at full speed. If it does, then it's probably just one of those narks that appears in Pete's plugin. Also, just try switching to the ePSXe Internal SPU and see what happens there.

The thing to do is this: remove all plugins from the plugins directory, and then add them one at a time, testing the time the menu takes to appear, until you find the plugin which causes the delay ... or maybe each plugin just adds a little time, so things just get slower and slower. You could always do this backwards, and remove plugins one at a time.
If you have lots of versions of my plugin, that would be a waste now, as you no longer have a Voodoo card.

I'll try that Lewpy, I'm in the process of backing up my HDs right now so I can reformat tho.

I only have one version of your plugin (1.0.39), it was included in Aldo's plugin pack

BTW, do you think I should ask Pete abpout this? or does this sound like a one-person problem?

It's exactly what lewpy was getting at.. The more pluggins you have in your pluggins folder, the more time it takes for the emu to properly load them into the epsxe video config.. Delete the ones you don't use and keep only the ones you use.. Even on my system there is a 2 second lag when loading the video config optioins with executor because I have a bunch of pluggins..

Maybe a Hd defrag will speed things up..

Alrighty,

I reformated and redownloaded/reconfigured ePSXe 1.5.2. I deleted all the lugins from the plugins folder except all of Pete's and E{I}'s Soft GPU. I'm really starting to suspect this may be a problem in the ePSXe 1.5.2 core. That FMV just won't play properly no matter what.

EDIT: I already tried your solution fivefeet8... No dice.

Test to see whether it's a plugin issue or an emu issue - play it with all different kinds of plugins and see if it slows down, try the D3D, OGL, Peops, Kazzuyas and e}I{'s plugins and see if you can get what you're after.

I tried all those plugins ... except Kazzuya's it still slows down.... and I can't try aother emu because ePSXe is the only one that works. AdriPSX crashes, and so does psinex....

Hi ArchLyn,

I have just buy WA2 and its run FMV smoothly. I have experience that WinXP is not good for running game (PC & PSX games as well) and i suggest that you better change to Win98SE. BTW hereafter are my PC spec.:

PIII/733Mhz
256 MB Ram
Win98SE
Asus Geforce2MX-400 32MB

ePSXe 1.5.2
- GPU: Pete's D3D 1.62 ( i just click "nice button" and change "desktop resolution option to 800x600 - 16 bit)
- SPU: Eternal 1.30 (default parameter)
- CDR: ePSXe CDR ASPI core 1.5.0
- Bios: SCPH1001.BIN

Good luck to you.

Most people here have no problems with XP. ePSXe has no real issues with it, it's not really ressacery, but installing Force ASPI can help.
