Question Little problem with FF9

Hello
I'm playing this game with the great epsxe, using Pete OGL 1.61 and Eternal SPU 1.30. I run the game from a .bin file.
It runs very well, but sometimes I notice annoying slowdowns. It occurs at the begining of each battle (when the monsters and characters appear) or when I use some magical attacks (still only at the begining of the attack, most of the time). I first thought it was because I lacked VRAM (16 Mb TNT2) but it doesn't slow down with Pete's soft plugin, so I guess there is another reason.
My specs :
Celeron 600@900 Mhz
TNT2 16Mb AGP (Asus)
512 Mb SDRAM
Thanks !

It's the use of Framebuffer effects that is doing that. If you want a constant speed, set framebuffer textures to 1, or set it to 0 and enable 'Full vRam Primatives'

Well, I'm not talking about the swirl effect... Framebuffer textures are already set to 1 (black), since when I activate them, I get like 1 FPS at the begining of each fight.
Any other idea ?

Usually in 800x600, but it's exactly the same in 640x480. I don't run it in 1024 because it slows down in the menus.

That's really odd. I can't think of anything off the top of my head....

Hmm... Your running from and iso so it shouldn't slow down.. FVP is off right? Maybe your hd is slow or it needs a defrag.. Try another psx iso and see if it does the same..

No, it's strange but this problem doesn't happen with a soft plugin, so I don't think it is because of the loading times of the hd.

I get a slowdown at the beginning at the battles too, and it's like the fps is "jumping" up and down... but it turn back into normal when everything is loaded... maybe it's because I have s slow computer... (I think it's 412 or 450 MHz)

sounds like fvp is your problem or frame buffer read. turn both of them off.

No, both are already turned off. It's unplayable if I enable them, anyway... I'll soon get a GeForce2 MX, I'll see if it's better (and maybe the lack of VRAM is the problem afterall)... I'll post here to let you know

The battels are smooth. Use a iso instead of cd.

Use Daemon Tools to use the ISO. The games Work better if you use daemon tools.

He's using a bin, which is a cd dump onto the hard drive. Same thing as an ISO, mostly.

Geez, guys, read all the post before you pop in with suggestions.

Well... have you tried updating your video card drivers? Defrag your hard drive, as someone here suggested, and also, try bumping your cpu back down, see if that does anything. An overclocked CPU would be one of the first things I'd check

Also, do a text dump of your settings using pete's dump option in the video config window, and copy it here.

I know have a geforce2 MX400 with Detonators XP 23.12. It's much better ! But I tried to enable the framebuffer textures (gfx card buffer) to see the swirl effect. It's very smooth for this effect, but when I use some magics (like "fire+", I don't know its name in English ), there is a pause of one or two seconds... Same thing when I exit a battle, or randomly on the world map. Very frustrating ! And as soon as I disable framebuffer textures, everything is ok... But I'd like to see the swirl effect !
Any ideas ?

The only way around that is to use the ingame gpu config panel. Press delete (That's delete NOT backspace) to show it. Then press insert to view instructions. Page up/down selects the option and end/home toggle it.

Basically goto the framebuffer option and toggle it on/off as required. Although it really is a pain just for a few seconds worth of graphics.
