the sounds in final fantasy 7 don't sound right to me. the music sounds perfect, but the general sounds (combat sounds, opening doors, etc.) sound incredibly low-res, and very different from the way they did on my poor dead playstation. for example, cloud's sword attack is making a high-pitched tone sound instead of the 'clang' i remember from playing the game on my psx. is this an emulation, plugin, or sound card problem?
i'm using ePSXe 1.5.2, eternal 1.30 spu with the following settings... buffer size 24 audio out method: thread ...and i'm using an SB16 pnp sound card. i realize that emulations will never be perfect, but i've read every FF7 thread i can find, and everyone that mentions the sound has said it sounds great. but it sounds like i'm playing the game on a c-64 or nes. any ideas? |

did you try using other SPU(s)?
anyway, please tell us your PC configurations. Eternal SPU may be heavy in low spec PC...

i've tried eternal, pete's, and the ePSXe core, all with similar results, but eternal seems to sound a little bit better.
i'm running a p2 450 with 384mb ram, win98, directx 8.0a geforce 2 mx 400 64 mb, creative SB16 pnp sound. |

Try setting the frame limit to a bit above normal (like 68 fps), sometimes this helps make the sound 'sound' right.

thanx all... i've kinda given up on trying to sort out the sound thing, and just started enjoying the game again (for perhaps the tenth time through).
i think the best thing about playing it emulated on a pc is that i can use the "save anywhere" game shark code. i never bought a game shark for my psx, and now that my psx is dead, there isn't any sense in it. and only being able to save at certain points was one thing that bugged me to no end. |
