Silly question...

Why a PSX with a 2x Cdrom speed can had best load time than the 32x of my CDrom drive (especially in the transition between the battles in FFIX, no sound glitches and no slowdowns )

that has to do with you overall comp and your settings not with your cdrom.

Seriously, I have been wondering of this too, the real PSX only has a 2X CD-ROM drive, and I got a 52X, but we all know the game wouldn't run well unless we play it off an ISO. Maybe someone here can help to smooth my curiosity.

All cd drives take time to spin up to operational speed. Usually this means that faster dirves have a slight delay before data can be read. Plus in older drives (eg the 2x) the speed was measured by the average of the whole disk. Nowadays as a marketing ploy they quote the fastest speed, which cannot be achived for most of the data on the disk.

My 40X CD-RW spins up faster than my 48X, so faster is not always better

er that's what I meant . eg It takes longer to spin up to to 48X than it would to spin up to 40x.
