is there ANY possible way to play this game without using vgs or a real psx?

If you have the NTSC version I believe there´s no way to make it work in ePSXe.

I have read in ********* than this game is protected, maybe than the ppf file will help, but i am not sure. I have the PAL version and it works fine.

I've tested 3-4 different PFF files for this game, not much success.
