Question n00b

i can't open my cd with epsxe. i've config'd it already, and i have a bios. put the cd in and run cd, right? doesn't work. and how do i make sure that the mdecs are on? the cd i'm trying to run is ff8. i read something about a vid driver that would help with some glitches, but i didn't really understand that either. plz, help me out.

if you have win2k (or some other win based OS, i forgot which) install the aspi layer. If nothing in the end works use clone cd to make it into an iso

sincerely,
Strider

Don't worry about Mdecs. They're on by default and you can't accidently switch them off. Could you post your system specifications, plugin settings (use the copy to clipboard option and then paste it into here) and language version ie us english, uk english french etc...

The reason why I asked this is because some language versions need either a ppf patch applied or sub channel support switched on to work. Sub channels do not work on all cd drives however. If you have a cd burner its usually your best bet.

IIRC, FF8 PAL doesn't need patching or subchannel reading. At least mine doesn't. It's a moot point anyway.
Have you tried using the internal W2K CDR driver? Or running from an ISO?

Mine is the original PAL version. I know because I bought it on the day it came out in my local Blockbuster.

Use CloneCD to run it as an ISO image as a test.

Sound configs, hmmm.
Try using Eternal's 1.20 SPU (or wait a bit and get 1.30 I reckon it's due very soon)
Make sure that the SPU IRQ hack is off in the emu, but on in the plugin.

k, i changed the fps, the sound plugin to eternal, and turned on the irq in the plug in. but the sounds are still doubled. i hear everything echoed.

also, the game graphics are a little boxy. i don't know if that can be changed or not...

Make sure you run it in 640x480 with filtering on 4 or 6 to reduce the blockyness.

right, he said on in the plugin, but off in the emu. so, i went into config eternal, and checked both boxes with spu irq. and unchecked the one on config sound. but the sounds are still echoed.

yeah, i figured that the graphics were the same. i haven't played this game since summer because i haven't had a ps at school.
